Got a small lake in my neck of the woods [W.Va.] that has a few tigers in it and one of the first muskys I ever hooked was slowly trolling a Musky Jitterbug while pitching for bass against the shoreline. Needless to say, that the fish got away, too slow getting to the rod and setting the hooks. Only fish I've raised trolling a topwater but I do it some every year. [:blackeye:]

Jason,

Was wondering how fast you trolled if you've done any Topwater trolling? Seems like this could be a great way to cover a lot of water early in the morning!

Thanks,

Topwater trolling...yes its something I do..and would like to do more. I have caught fish but only trolling with the electric bow mount. Kinda fun to cover a flat and look back at the baits and see the muskies chase them down.

If they make it you can drag it!
plop, plop, fizz, fizz ,Oh what a releif it is!

20 to 50 feet behind the boat,1.1 mph and slam it into neutral when trolling through the Andies from time to time, you might find Mighty Joe Young!

Trolling topwaters, we thought that was are only secert!!Topwater trolling is a deadly tactic for creek fishing! We have used creepers to believers making runs up and down the creek. We run them about 50' back and boat position is critical trying to get as close to log jams and the deeper pools as possible. A lot of twisting and turning in the creek witch is not very wide. But as any Muskie creek hunter knows they can be in little as 1' of water!!!

As we came around the bend in the creek a couple a bank fisherman we laughing, giggling and said they could not figure out what that noise was. All they heard was plop plop, buzz buzz and clack clack!! Must of been quite a site as we where all have a good laugh, then slam a believer went down and the laughing stopped, after a short fight I lost it a the boat.

Topwater trolling is a blast!

One tip I found out works the best over the last couple years is make sure you keep the bait in the water, you cant catch anything with the bait out of the water.I found this out trolling one year when the board slipped back to the lure and rode the surface,no wounder we didnt catch anything.

Planer boards, line counters. Let out 40 feet, clip on the board, let out another 35 to 50 depending on your spread, rod in the holder. If you keep the topwater on the outside board, when a fish hits, the board and line will swing around behind the propwash and close board.[:0]

For Tigers: Early in the morning as the sun comes up, I have very slowwwwwwwwwly inched my boat forward while twitching a black propellor bait behind the boat adjacent the weed edge (also the first dropoff). Seems to work in the morning but not at dusk.
