Does anyone put a base of mono on their reels and connect it to Tuf-Line? If so, how much mono and what knot do you use to connect mono to Tuf-Line? Thanks, Tom

Posts: 600 Location: West Bend, WI | You MUST!!! put mono on as a backing for all superlines. All you really need is just a few cranks on the reel. Some peeps will fiil with about a 1/3 of mono to cut down on the cost of the super lines. For the knot try this... Posts: 600 Location: West Bend, WI | The mono keeps the superline from slipping on the spool. With out the mono you will think you blew your drag.I know it's hard to believe that the whole spool of line will spin, but it does.Trust me I Thought I blew The drag on my first musky reel.(I had no backing)

Posts: 814 | What pound mono do you guys recommend? I have never used mono for backing all I have ever done is tape the knot and a couple turns of line to the spool.

Posts: 4266 | I tie back to back Uni-knots and slide them together. On my 5500's I fill them all the way, the reverse the line after one year so the fresh line is on the top. Beav

Posts: 550 Location: So. Illinois | I just spooled a reel with 80lbs Power Pro and matched the diameter of the power pro with a good quality mono. 20lbs Trilene matched the diameter of the Power Pro pretty good.

Posts: 2024 | 20 lb. Trilene Big Game. I fill up about 1/3-1/2 the spool because the more full the spool is the faster you will pick up line. I use back-to-back Uni knots as Beav said and flipped the superline on my reels this year to prolong their lives.
