Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that water temps at some Hayward area musky lakes are now super high- today the surface water temps were over 84 degrees in the morning, even before they peaked in the afternoon! Bummer, got out to fish and had to target other species instead. So in case anyone was heading up to muskie fish over the 4th of July weekend, might want to consider bringing some bass/walleye gear.

We have a cabin in a smallish stained lake E of Hayward....took the kids out tubing yesterday afternoon and had surface temps of 85-88...out this morning at dawn (bass fishing) and had surface temps still at 80-82. Dont remember seeing temps this hot by the 4th of July.

Yeah, it's crazy how hot it is! Dad was at the cabin West of Hayward midday yesterday, and water temps there were just over 86, I can't believe it. Seems like it's unusually hot, even when the water has gotten hot I don't remember it being this high.

Same situation here in Oneida County. We have been on the chain for 17 years and this is the earliest I remember water temps over 80.

Hotter than Hades for sure. I can’t recall a heat spell like this for many, many years. I think the high water temps are being exacerbated by the lack of wind. Hot, humid, and dead calm isn’t a winning combo...

The lack of wind is my guess. In Price county here and it has been calm. Was out a couple days ago here and water was 85. Went to the islands in lake Superior yesterday and surface temp was 72.

Just back from the Chip. Friday early evening 90.4 deg. Cooled a little Sat. to 86. Not good. Need a major wind blow, 2 or 3 inches of rain, and a welcome coldfront.

Two inches of rain overnight and westerly breezes and lower air temps today. Haven’t been out yet, but it has to be cooler...

Just got back from Namakagon and by the time I left temps were around 75-78 depending on time of day. Week started warm, but the wind/rain helped stir it up.

Temps around Hayward today were 72-74 on the fairly clear lake I fished.

Temps were 70-75 on the 5 lakes we fished this past week in the Hayward area, warmest upon arrival, cooling to perfection now.
