Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Is any one using these for musky? I have some concerns that the reel may be too small. I know with superlines you do not need the additional spool capacity but I am some what worried that this bass sized reel will not hold up to the daily grind of musky fishing.

| Used them with 65lb tuffline plus with no problems for 3 years and over 150 plus days a year on the water. I went with all 400 now, just for the line clickers...BR | |||

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I would love to go with the 400 series but I am actually looking for a 251 (lefty model) and to my knowledge they don't make a 401 except for the TE (and I'm way too cheap to spend that kind of $'s on a reel).

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Got one on a 7'6" ex-heavy Allstar. I put dartainium washers and 6.3:1 gears in it. Sweeeeeeet! No line out levelwind, but narrow spool keeps things in order.

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | I would buy one but the levelwind disengages on the cast. I don't like this in a round reel. Causes bad line angles and uneven spooling which creates more backlashes.

Posts: 696 Location: Northern Illinois | I've been using Shimano for many years. And I talked to a sales rep who came into our store one day about that reel. He was saying that originally it was a bass reel but has done really well with musky. He also any problems that they've had were when you would spool to much line onto it which shouldn't be a problem if your careful. Didn't understand exactly what he was talking but he knew what he was talking about.

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | I have a Curado with 80# Power Pro and haven't had any problems with it at all. Can't imagine why a 250 would be any different. I do understand the levelwind issue ToddM talks about though. But Power Pro has been very forgiving in my experience with bass sized freespools
