Location: Oshkosh, Wisconsin | I was thinking about getting a St. Croix rod for muskies soon. I am thinking of getting a Premier or Avid. What do you guys think about this? Any suggestions?

You can go eithor way. The Premiers are a little less $, and have a 2 year warranty. The Avids are made with better components, and are a little lighter, but they also cost more $. They do have a limited lifetime warranty though, which is pretty nice. They are both great rods for the money though. The nice thing about the Avids is that if you use it for a pool que, and break the tip, you can get the rod replaced if you make up a good enough story. Just don't chalk the tip!

Location: Black Creek, WI | I'm a St. Croix man. For no other reason than that is what Daddy started me on (interpreted.... there are lots of great rods out there to choose from). If you can swing the $$$$, I feel the Avid is your best choice. I use both the Premier and Avid and both do the job... but the Avid takes less work to get the job done (becomes more important with age). If money is an issue.... than the Premier is a great compromise. Whichever St. Croix rod you choose, it will be money well spent. Good Luck and enjoy your new toy. |

| The best rod on the market has to be the new 7'6 avid heavy. I got my demo and it is the greatest. Great for anything. I always try to stay with the 7'6 size rod except for jerks then it's a 6'9. | You can't go wrong with any of the St Croixs. The only thing that you need to decide...besides which model you want....is what you want to spend. Get them in your hands, talk to someone at a tackleshop that you trust, and then make your decision on the best rod for you. Make sure that you take into consideration what lures you fish the most and what they weigh. You won't be disappointed.

Location: Holly, MI | I just picked up my third Croix and love 'em all. get this, my fishing buddy called me that he had a new 7'6" MH Croix for me 12-30 lb test, 3/8 to 1 1/2 oz) for $35 !! He got 3 St croix rods for $35 each and a LOOMIS GL3 for $55 at an auction. They all look un used! I could only talk him out of the big croix that he wouldn't use. |

I would definately go with a Croix. My new favorite is my 8' Premier. Have no complaints and is my 5th St. Croix.

Location: London | Great rods,great after sale service.I got a replacement Avid 76MHF sent to England no problems, 2 week turn round,for a nominal $10.
I personally prefer the Avids.If the extra cost is an issue & you are
OK at DIY look into buying the blank & making the rod up yourself.

Thanks for all the replys. I work at Water Werks II in Naperville, Illinois and get good deals on rods. I want to get a nice quality rod and I think St. Croix is a good bet. Pete Maina suggested a longer rod. He said it was all he ever used. I think I will get a 7'0" or 7'6" Avid.

Just a suggestion, always get the longest rod you can get for the action, that way you won't find yourself cycling through shorter rods you bought earlier for a longer version of that action. Just a suggestion.
