I currently have a tranx pg on my LT sling blade and want to get a new rod for my calcutta 400te. My brother has the TI rods and loves them so i was looking into them. Im just wondering what TI rod i should get (length and power) for throwing shallow raiders, suicks, and topwater (more prop style baits). I know each of these techniques should have differents rods and specs but im just looking for an all around TI rod that can handle these baits well but isnt too heavy or stiff. Any opinions?
Thanks

I think the XH would work, but you may want to ask around or see if you can handle a MH as well. I have the XH and XXH TI rods and they would certainly do what you are talking about and do it well, but you might like the MH also if you like using something in a little lighter power.

I have the 9 footers also, but if you find yourself using a lot of wrist snaps vs long pulls, may want to consider the 8'6". I really like my 9 footers for bucktails or pull baits, but tempted to look into an 8'6" MH for twitching Triple D's and other similar presentations.

As I said, I have not owned or used the MH, but could be something to look into. Otherwise, the XH can handle a wide range of baits.

The Mh is comparable to a bass flipping stick IMO. Yes, I have one. I use it as my small lure rod. Does great at 1oz spinners, 8's 6" minnow baits, and rattlebaits.

I have two XH's. One 9' and one 8'. My next purchase will be a 9'MH for the same applications as you'res. In my opinion, the XH's are a little bit on the heavy side for lighter baits, especially smaller minnow baits. While I've made them work for the past few years, I want a rod to load up a little more than the XH's do. For a one rod do all, the do think the XH's are the way to go though. I'd probably go 8'6" in this rod, but 7'6" is the limit for my rod locker, so am going 9' telescopic.

I have multiple TI MH, XH, and XXH's ...I'd grab the 9' MH every time for the baits you want to throw.

I have the mh 9ft 2piece and absolutely love it. I use it for baits up to 8oz. Loads best imo in 2-5oz range.

I must put to much muscle into it when twitching anything besides a 6" jake.

i'd still recommend the XH over the MH as it is stiffer which you'll need for suicks/jerkbaits. The XH will throw all those like a champ and I'd be concerned that the MH's flex would negatively impact the action of your lures.

Just a thought.

For me the 9' XH as a jerkbait rod was just too much rod, but I'm more of a twitch retrieve. I returned it for the 7'6" XXH and love it.

I do put shallow raiders on my 9' MH if I just want to retrieve them with an occasional jerk, and it works just fine. But, I wouldn't use it primarily as a jerkbait rod.
