Hi all,

I'm looking for a place to launch on the Fox River in or around Green bay. A friend of mine is going to fish around there after his Canadian trip was a washout. He called to see if I knew where he could launch and I have never fish there so I have no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

there's a very nice landing at Fox Point in east De Pere.
it's on Broadway St. (Hwy 57), east of the river, north of downtown.

I second Fox Point, but if you are going to primarily fish the north end/ the bay itself, launch near the Yact Club, in the Shadow of the Tower Drive Bridge, a.k.a Leo Frigo Bridge. Equally as nice.

One tip. If you are fishing the river, go bright and LOUD. Look for current breaks, and don't be afraid to fish high, even if you are marking fish deep on the channel edges.

Hi Shep,

I talked to Crook last night and he said you were one of the guys to talk to about fishing that area. Thank you for the advice I tried calling my buddy who went out that way today and past on what you had suggested.

Thanks

Any one care to help me a little with this area. Was going to try today but didn't because of the 30mph winds in the AM. Heard with the winds the water can drop 2 feet or more pretty quick. Thanks. Jeff

Is MF covering the tourney out of G.B.? I haven't heard anything so I assume not. It would be great to hear some reports about number of fish or tactics. I can't recall if it is the weekend of Oct. 7-8 or the 14-15th.

14th-15th.

I'm not sure if I'm going to fish this or not. I really should, but would like to see many more entries. Guess I'll decide with WI Wade next week.If not, maybe I'll float around in the new Tuffy, and take some photo's.

Not to be a hater of the motives, but a tourney on the fox seems like a crap shoot. Its not that big of an area to fish and with that many boats its like rolling the dice. Guys will be trolling over the same areas all day long non stop. Ruins it for the weekend locals IMHO

Was out trolling the Fox this morning and got a nice healthy looking 45 icher right at 20lbs. Fish was unhooked in water and let go to fight another day!

MuskyWI, please help me understand how Muskies Inc. "ruins" fishing for the "weekend locals"? Is it through the stocking efforts of the clubs or the C&R information which is passed on or is it the MI sponsored speakers with tactics specifically geared toward local waters or the countless other efforts of the MI clubs to ensure the future of Musky fishing. Yes, the river will be a bit more congested for that one weekend but I really believe that the local clubs efforts will only enhance the "weekend locals" musky fishing for the future.

Lidocaine, were you guys in the blue and white fischer boat? I thought it was Jan so I yelled over, but it was not him.

ReefHawg,

Probably was not me, I have a silver/blue bass tracker. Were you the boat with three people in it trolling with the planer boards?

Wade,
I am not agianst what you are doing in any way. I commend everything you do. When I read that there would be 150 boats I just thought that was a bit much for thet small area to fish. I'm not a big fan of tourneys to begin with so that is probably why I said that in the first place but if the money is going for a good reason than it is a good thing. Keep up the good work.

Lidocaine, Nope, we had my dads new Alumacraft out there, blue with blue E-Tec. Dad was wearing red and blue rain gear and I had the Pabst Blue Ribbon cap on. We cast the morn, and trolled the aft. Yup, we saw the Tracker.

There will not be 150 boats in this tourney. Lucky to be 50, more than likely, less than 30.

This is one weekend. How is that ruining anything? Will it be more crowded? Sure. But that is all relative. When I started fishing this system, I hardly saw another boat. Now, it's a zoo out there some days. As far as I'm concerned, the "locals" have, and will have more impact, than this tourney.

Besides, the River itself is a pretty big piece of water. I've caught fish everywhere, from the dam to the mouth. And yes, I expect most to be beating the water to a froth in front of the mill. I'll be there for exactly two hours, if I can get in line, that is.

Is it generally better to stay in the river or can there be success when adventuring out into the bay?

Thanks.

There are fish to be caught out on the bay. University Bay holds fish, as well as the reefs further out. I do believe there are fish that spend all their time out in the deep water, just following and gorging themselves on the huge schools of baitfish. I don't think these fish ever see a river.

A friend CPR'd a 53 x29 two weeks ago off a reef, trolling a big spinnerbait. I've had big fish follow a crawler harness while walleye fishing out on the bay, a couple when out in 30 feet. Why didn't I figure 8!!?? I think what Dennis Radloff said makes sense if you are going to fish out on the bay. "Fish it like it was a lake, not as this huge bay." Break it down, have a plan, and execute. Evaluate your results, modify the plan, and try it again. Repeat until you figure it out.

For those of you with experience on this system, are you using really big baits or can you get away with 8-10" cranks, bucktails, etc.

THANKS

Shep, why would you go out with a guide? Fish don't count when you catch'em with a guide! Just like last weekend doesn't count because you were out with me in my boat...Lucky Skunk...Oh oH, have to go to the Bathroom now...
TKopke and I will be giving all the fish sore mouths on P.I. this weekend....so good luck next weekend

As a side note and maybe it has been posted somewhere else and maybe jazon can confirm but I think/heard that Muskies Inc. and the Titletown Chapter were able to donate $4500 to the DNR at the Best of Best tournament for future GB musky efforts.....

Kevin left the WDNR and particularly the GB biologist position a few months ago. He left because the WDNR would not support his pursuit of his Doctorate. They had told him they would in a few years but now was the time for him and he found a department out East that would, so he packed his bags. I think he made the right decision as I would not stand for being strung along either. I just wish he could have been here for the great fishing this fall. As far as I know they haven't filled his position yet and no one is getting tag information back. Many are not even bothering with tags because of this.

That sux.
He was a great asset to what many enjoy today, as well as in the future. Sad loss for the WI musky program. as in anything worth while controlled by the state, "one step forward, two steps back".
