Posts: 70 | Has anybody removed the middle hook hanger and moved the front back about a 1\2 inch back so the bait only has two hooks? Will this hurt the action of the bait? Thanks

Posts: 865 | Just Curious? Why would you want to change a bait design that has been producing nice fish year after year after year... There is an old saying if it aint broke don't fix it ..just saying

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | If you do, be careful to test the bait before you lock anything down with epoxy on the treads. When I made my Nokken cranks I took a lot of lure brands in this category a part and tested them. The ratio of the front:back length and weight is very particular on the action and many times IF the bait would even run anymore. From what I found, you will get less action if you do this vs that wild wobble and snake action a Wiley has as-is. However, do your experiment IMO. You never know what can happen and you may get and action like no other for your bait that the fish react to much better. That is what fishing is about too. Your ideas catching fish! Hard to improve on a Wiley, Loke, etc though. Years and years of tweaking by the builders. JMO-James

Posts: 246 | Try it and see what happens. I modify baits that I have to try and make them do something different. Sometimes it's better sometimes it's worse.

Posts: 1247 Location: On the Niagara River in Buffalo, NY | I would not change anything on a Wiley 5 1/2" Musky King Jr. Jtd. Crankbait! I have found out over time that when you cut a hook do not use split rings to replace a hook, open up the eye and replace hook with exact size & weight and reclose eye. Wiley's catch fish, why change what is Hot!

It didn't really seem to change the way the bait ran at all. I've also made a few Wiley copies and only made them with 2 hooks and used a little larger hooks on them and it's worked out well. Posts: 148 Location: pittsburgh, pa | I do it to every single one of my jointed 5.5"ers. first of all it makes them walk alot more and on places like clair u can run sliders and be legal. put a 3/0 mustad round bend on the belly and T it. they will work just fine. I actually order them from dale like that because i prefer them with 2 hooks

Posts: 378 Location: Michigan | I haven't trolled in a while, but I used to just remove the front hook, and the bait still ran fine. Did not have trouble with hooking up either.
