Posts: 1828 | What was the fishing like for everyone on Saturday afternoon? In my area the cold front came through in the early evening. Weather was nice in the morning, started clouding up around 2 pm, by 4:00 it was dark and super windy, and then it rained off-and-on from 5:00 through sunset. Barometer bottomed out mid-day and started climbing, slowly at first in the afternoon, and then skyrocketed up starting Sunday morning. I was lucky enough to get out from 3:30 to dark Saturday. From 4:30 to 8:00 I had seven hits, five hook-ups, and landed four. By far the best action I've ever had, but nothing big. No regrets, but I can't help thinking "what if I was on a better lake?" Hence this thread - did others have a super afternoon? Thanks.

Posts: 140 Location: Northern Illinois | Don't know about Saturday...had to attend soccer & football games for our kids, but made it out sunday afternoon and had similar results. We saw four fish and I caught one, my personal best, at 44.5". Almost had one come in the boat w/us as it came out of the water as I lifted out of my eight.... didn't realize it was there till it was too late. Should of had that fish as well if I was paying more attention. Gotta love musky fishing. Fishen-ski's

Posts: 77 | We smoked 'em on Saturday in Hayward. Saw 16 fish, hooked 8 and landed 6. Biggest in the boat was 42. Lost a real hawg boat side. She was probably 47-48 and hefty. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 1828 | It's nice to hear others were getting them. Did anyone find that the whole day was good (or better than average), or was there just one or two [or more] intense windows? Obviously what I'm trying to figure out is the recipe that made the fish go crazy. My action was, as I said, when the barometer bottomed out and started rising slowly, which was when the weather was the worst [but still not all that bad]. However, I wasn't on the water before that happened, so I don't know if it was good all day or night. I can think of three other times fishing similar weather conditions. Once there was an extreme feeding frenzy just as the weather was degrading as the high pressure system was inching closer. No action before this, and no action after the front. Another time we didn't get on the water until the end of the storm, and right after the rain let up, caught two fish, then nothing. Still another time, this summer, I started fishing while it was still nice but the barometer was dropping, fished right through the nasty, dark, windy period and right up until it calmed down and started to rain, and NOTHING happened. Then this time, Saturday, fish were moving pretty much as soon as I hit the water, and remained so through the off-and-on rain and up and down wind. These four scenarios are comparable because they involved great barometric changes but without a severe "storm", mostly just wind and rain. I'm not comparing yesterday to the high-pressure systems whose arrival brings major thunderstorms - those are different.

Posts: 4 | I was very surprised to see this posting as I was wondering the same thing. My son and I were in Southern Wisconsin Saturday and Northern Illiniois Sunday. Were still learning but this was our best weekend in our five years of chasing.

Posts: 77 | We had a few intense feeding windows and steady action between them. One of the windows was just before the huge front blew in from the west. Like you said, it wasn't a high pressure system that brought in t-storms, just alot of clouds and rain. If you were on the water and on a spot with multiple fish it was game on. We boated 4 fish in 10-12 minutes before the front. In scenarios like that it's a smart move to forget taking pics (unless it's a giant in the bag) and keep casting! I know it sucks to not get pics but when it's go time, baits in the water = fish in the net.

Posts: 77 | By the way, fish haven't stopped going in Hayward. Bite for bigger fish hasn't been this good all year. Sucker fishing the weed edges while casting blades over the weeds is killing right now! Attachments ---------------- ![]()
