Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | For years, I had a oil bottle with a needle point to direct oil to parts of my reel that needed it. It got old and brittle and cracked and broke. Since I've been trying to find something that would do the job. I was at D1ck Moore's last week and the subject came up. D1ck's wife Carol disappears and then returns with this applicator, Its used for gluing threads tying flies, but I tried it out and it works great for oil. No longer do I have to guess where the drop will land and its next to impossible to do that on the Revos worm gear. Problem solved. If you order one, you won't see it for a few weeks as D1ck and Carol are in Canada doing what else? Fishing. Pic 1 - Get your applicator Pic 2 - Add your oil Pic 3 - Start dropping on the only places you need it. Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | Ardent's Reel Butter oil already comes in a bottle like that. Makes oiling a lot easier & less mess.
I also have that applicator bottle that I use for my head cement so I took the cap off of it to see if it fit the Ardent bottle & it's a perfect fit.

Normally gears do get grease, but because this is out in the open, grease will attract more grit and dirt causing it to wear faster. So just a little oil every so often will go the trick.

But when you're out on the water with no way to actually get the grease in there because of the ^#*$ cover plate they put on the Revo's it's oil or nothing.

Posts: 58 | i use toothpicks to put grease onto the wormgear when using it. takes no extra time just toss a handfull of them into the bag with the oil and grease.
