I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for a fish finder for $200 or less? I was thinking about buying the Lowrance Elite-4x DSI (right around $200).

I have thought about it. I'm a little leary about buying used electronics though. I allways buy used lures, but with lures what you see is what you get. It is a good suggestion tough - thanks.

All of the units in that price range do a great job these days. Not as cool as all the expensive models, but they get the job done.

Repair of electronics is what i do for a living, most for the electronics fail the first three months or extreme temps and somewhere after 7 years things go funky. I always look for used but always try it before i buy. if it is only 1 or 2 years old and works it can be a good deal older than 5 years then not so good. last one i bought was $40 bucks electronics do not hold there value. 10 to 35 cents on the dollar is what i look for, but i am an old guy and the youngsters at work say us old guys are cheap.

Just got the Cabelas Sale flyer in the mail. They have listed the Lowrance Mark-4 DSI Sonar/GPS/Down Scan Imaging on sale - regular $299, now $199.

Just get an Eagle for as close to $200 as you can. It will work just fine for you.

X 67 C is a little more but worth it. Color is an advantage for bottom type and fish size as big fish are a different color than little fish as arches on graph. Fishing near bottom for walleyes and saw a clump of baitfish mid water column with a huge arch and pulled one bait to that level and got a nice muskie. It has been a good pattern for me since.

That's a good price with all of those extra features. Just got a Bass Pro flyer that is advertising the new Mark-4s at $199. Same unit, but it doesn't have any GPS or Down Scan capabilities and it has a grey screen.

EDIT: I lied. That does have the Chartplotter capability.

Thanks for all the helpfull information and suggestions. So many choices and they all have their advantages. I went with the Lowrance Elite-4x DSI Color Imaging Fishfinder for $199 from Bass Pro. Almost bought one online for cheaper, but I live very close to a BP and gave them some business. I think the high resolution imaging in color will not only be productive but will also be fun to explore the bottom of lakes I fish.
