Subject: Revo Toro 51 question

Hey guys, I am generally new to the sport (bout two years) and Just bought a Revo Toro 51 as my second reel. I Did a lot of research online before I made my purchase and this seemed like the best all around reel for the money. I guess my question is, What should I be using it for the most? As well as what Should I not be throwing with it, if anything?

Thanks!

How are we to know? We have no clue what you own for baits. Give me the ratio of the reel and a bait and I will gladly give you a yea or nay.

Like I said just looking for a generalization... For example, I inquired a few pounder bull dawgs from a buddy who has a lot of gear. Should or can I throw those with this reel? What about big double bladed cowgirls and supermodels? Large Phantoms? 10" Jakes, Grandmas? The list goes on. I don't have a lot of gear but want to pick some stuff up at the shows this year and looking to get a few different things. I know the poles have a lot to do with it and I own a Shimano Compre 7'6" XH- Fast. Any insight would be appreciated...

I got one last year and i really like it. I don't really throw too many big baits, dont use 10's too much but it can handle them pretty well when i did. I also never really used ponders. I do like this real alot with gliders because of the amount of line it reels in quickly, ur able to really control the bait alot better i think.

I wouldnt go throwing pounders with it all the time, probably not much at all really. some of those 10" cranks can pull pretty hard too I had a 61 winch with the 4:6:1 ratio and it did well with cranks and double 10s but I dont know about the 51. youre correct on the rod and my .02 would be to get a new rod as well for these larger baits you mentioned. shimano makes great stuff but the 7'6 XH compre is only for like what 2-6 oz or 2-8 oz? I know that doesnt mean thats the biggest bait it will handle but maybe look into one of their new split grip compre rods in the 8'6 XXH or 9'0 XXH. the added length and backbone will make it easier to toss and retrieve those baits.

Aren't the Shimano Compre rods that are 9' long tele-scopic?

i have a standard revo toro wich i tried can cast lots of baits. id keep the weight limit to 1-4 ounces. try to keep it lower than 4 ounces but it can handle the jake lure. although i really dont reccomend using this reel for big cranks like a 10 inch jake i dont see it braking. Dont use bulldawgs for this asit will ruin the gears. people say it can handle the pounder but i cant see som1 casting a pounder for long.
