Wasn't fishing for musky but I caught and released this beauty of a fish. She was pretty scared up from the spawn and didn't give much of a fight. Picture is definitely not the best, its from a camera phone.

She measured 46" with a 25" girth. Any estimates on a weight? The calculator on here says 36# and I'm pretty sure she had eggs in her. I'll give my secret lure of choice away on this one. 1/4oz jig head with a chartreuse twister tail. Gets 'em every time. Be sure to rig this up on a 7'6" spinning combo and 10 pound fluorocarbon line.

Too early in the season to question measurements, but I think I just did.

I was surprised at the measurements myself but I did measure twice to make sure.

Why do they open the southern zone of Wisconsin before the northern part? I'm from MN and have never even heard of this haha

Rumbler..........I can answer that question. Very few muskie are naturally bred in the Southern zone of Wisconsin, most if not all are stocked muskies. Since there is no natural reproduction to speak of and since the muskies "spawning ritual" is earlier due to warmer water, and we arent harrassing "spawning fish", the DNR allows an earlier season South of Hwy. 10 in Wisconsin.

This is a good opportunity to get out a little earliar in the year and fish some great water as well.

It is all social, the people in the south are not nearly as uptight and those in the north...really has nothing to do with spawning fish...just social differences...BR
