Location: Kildeer, IL | Has anyone made a pull rope out of anything but rope? I've heard of people using aircraft cable, bowstrings, and others
I would like to make a new pull rope out of coated wire rope.
If you have made one out of cable, how did you attach the cable to the pull handle? You can't tie a knot, and the termination crimps would seem to get in the way. |

Location: north west wisconsin | i have an older minnkota maxxium and the rope broke on me twice so I used aircraft cable I had enough room to put the u shaped cable clamps on to hold it seems to work alright the locking system dosent work as well as it used to but I jiggle the cable and it locks... small price to pay for the security of not being stuck with the trolling motor down!
For the pull handle I had to modify it a little to get the clamp to sit flush with the top

| Plastic coated clothes line. You need 2 cable clamps. It will last for years and will not kink. |

Location: Kildeer, IL | I have a Minnkota Maxxum (2000). I bought some of the plastic coated clothes line to try. I'm worried that it isn't going to be strong enough. Plus there is a lot of stretch in the line. I'll keep some rope in the boat for backup. |

Location: Kildeer, IL | In case any one is still following this, the plastic coated clothes line failed after one weekend. I'm probably going to go back to plain old rope. I'll just leave some in the boat as a backup. It's not that hard to replace the rope on a Maxxum. I've heard it is a nightmare on other motors. |

| When I had a motor guide brute,I got some plastic tubing that the rope would fit into at the local hardware store.It would protect the rope from any sharp edges.and lasted a long time.Good luck.
