They get a good fight and some good fillets if they keep it. On occasion, if caught, they get a hefty fine too. Which they likely wont pay.

Posts: 145 | Ok I caught a small musky this year that missed the bait and when I set the hook I ended up hooking in the side of the tail truth be told it was a crappy fight and I knew as soon as I hooked it that I was not in it's mouth. No big runs, no acrobatics no nothing just a short weak fight and then it was in.

Posts: 135 | Snagging is just another one of those methods of harvesting fish for those who fish for meat instead of fun. Usually snaggers prefer when the fish are shallow, spawning or sunbathing. Last year I had the profound satisfaction of calling the US fish and wildlife on a couple of 20 something idiots on the Licking River in KY who were snagging musky from their jonboat. I first talked to them in a friendly way and let them know it was illegal and that musky were pretty vulnerable at that time when they were so shallow. I was invited to the bank to get my a$$ kicked, then chased around by them for about 20 minutes (I was alone but twice the size of both of them put together), but then they got out a compound bow and suddenly I thought of Deliverance. They finally went up river a bit, and so did I. I found cell service as I watched them snag a 25" musky and incredibly the F&W was there within 15 minutes. Luckily they saw the guys from shore, and watched as they actually snagged a very big largemouth, probably 6-7 lbs. They busted them from shore and as the guys tried to get away on the river they ran up on a submerged log and then unbelievably tried to run away up the river! It was kind of like watching an episode of "Cops" I was in my boat watching the whole thing from a distance and as I left the area while the F&W was cuffing them (yes cuffing them) on shore, the snaggers shouted profanities and threats at me, told me they wrote down my boat numbers. They were clearly drunk or messed up on something besides stupidity. I was later called by the F&W office to ask if I would testify if needed, of course I said yes. They also asked if I wanted to pursue them for intimidation, I told them that I couldn't because I wasn't the least bit intimidated ![]() Well, here I am boys, come and get me.
