Hey guys my names chris. Im 20 years old been fishing my whole life, I came onto musky fishing by accident, My dad had just came back from msky fishin in lake of the woods ( canada ) and he caught everything on my bass rod ( 6'6 browning MH ) with a shimano reel using 50 lb ( shocking ) cortland spectron line NO leader. The largest he caught was 46 inches weighing just over 28lbs. Well I went fishing in a private lake in northern illinois and was fishing for bass and I had my browning with me that was rigged up for musky and I figured that since the current state record tiger musky was out of this lake I should try it. I ended up some how which way or another ( devine intervention ) Hooking into a 50 + inch tiger ( Now is when people stop believeing ) well I got the fish to the boat and Im with my little brother (13 ) my best friend and my buddys daughter ( 17 ) and between the 3 of them they couldent figure out how to get this sucker in the boat. We had no net so we called my dad he told us how to grab the fish. my buddy tried to gill it like you would a bass ( but using both hands ) and cut his whole hand up. the fish dove straght down under the boat and frayed the line. That was my first encounter with the musky. Ive been hooked ever since. Now some are going to say how do you know it was that big. Well my little brother measured out from the nose to where the tail was and it was 51 inchs. Im not sure if hes 100 % dead on but regardless it was a huge fish. I just thought id give a little intro to my self.

welcome to the site and beware the musky bite hits one hard and hits are expensive. Get out your pocketbook if you got the bug and good luck.

Run don't walk. Put the muskie rod down or you'll be forever hooked.

Seriously welcome. Its a dreadful decease that makes you buy tons of muskie baits. See attachment.

Chris,

My name is Matt. I currently live in Dekalb with family in Rockford. i am 26 years old and have been musky fishing for six years. ive got all sorts of tackle, rods and reels. i also have all equipment necessary to handle ski's (net, jaw spreaders, long pliers, hook cutters, etc.) If you would ever like to get out and take another shot at that fish i would be more than happy to go out with you. I have already caught two over fifty and have handled many others. i am proud to say i have had all my fish release solid and have only ever lost three believe it or not(knocking on wood). Send me a PM.

Chris,

Typically i will fish the Madison Chain, i have fished lake holiday a few times to no avail. ive gone to rock cut but dont really expect anything. My friends tell me to go to Shabbona but i never find the time. most of my fishing occures in northern wi or canada. i have a feeling i know which private lake you are reffering to. Its funny that you live in naperville, i am closing on a house in aurora on the 30th. if you wanna stop by some time, we can set something up and talk about ski's.
