| As for the X-ray of the Magic Maker. This was when I first got into making lures and Musky fishing all at the same time.............wow talk about a drain on the wallet!!!!!!! I was amaised at the action of the Magic Maker. I went out and bought one and didn't have the heart or the desire to cut a $26.00 bait in half. I knew a Vet. that loved fishing and he was excited about the adventure. Well then I decided that they all had to be made exactly the same, so I knew another engineer friend who made me a CAD file of them......... I knew another person that had a wood shop with a CNC machine........ Long story short I ended up with about 200 Magic Maker bodies, still have about 100, never sold a one, gave them to friends, and if I had payed for all of this stuff I would have had thousands of dollars wrapped up in a $26.00 bait. Everyone I tell that story thinks I am nuts...............but loves the story!!!! It still amazes me how the entire thing just kept snowballing untill my desire to make a COUPLE lures turned into a multi-state adventure!!!!!! | |||

| I don't think you are nuts just because of the story. There is way more to it than that dude. But I do like those baits, and the one that I got from you is pretty good. Needs a tad bit more weight to work exactly like a magic maker, but the topwater effect is unique, so I like it better the way it is. Put up a thread with some of your baits fishboy, you need to show them off some. They are some nice looking and working baits and I think everyone would appreciate them. You know what is weird is that I know and am friends with so many good lure makers right here in the unlikely muskie state of Indiana, not to mention the great lure makers that I have seen on this sight. I made muskie lures long before I even got to fish for muskies, and never thought that there were others out there like me. Then I started muskie fishing and became friends with a few guys like Don Slagle, who makes some of the best working baits out there, and that aren't too shabby looking either. And Dag, who makes some awesome baits like the scarce and mythical grub chub that a few are lucky enough to have used, including me, who got one fish on one of them that was a personal best 47" pike. Dag also makes killer looking gliders that people would be blown away by, with the finish on them as well, not to mention several other unique designs that I know have inspired some of the mass market baits that we all throw. And then I got a new job at a construction company and work with this Fishboy fellow quite a bit in the industry, who I found makes some killer basement baits as well. And then there is Chae Dolson, who makes those great Tippy Darters that I love so much and who is a big part of the muskie fishing scene in Indiana and a cool guy as well. Like I said, it is weird the connections you meet from fishing, and even more so to meet so many creative guys out there that love muskie fishing and who also love creating unique muskie lures so much. And once I found this sight, I found that there were even more bad ass lure makers out there. It is cool to have something in common with people, and that is the beauty of this site, that you get the chance to see lots of cool ideas, and to get inspired to come up with new ideas of your own. The basement bait community will just keep getting bigger, I think. | |||
