Location: Des Moines IA | I am looking for a reel to go on a 7'6 1-3 oz bucktail rod. I think i am going with the abu big game 7000 HS . which gear ratio do i go with. the 4.1 to 1 , or the 5.3 to 1 . And what is the difference between HS & HSN ?

the N in HSN stands for Narrow. It is a little smaller than the other. I have two of the HSN and love them I use them for everything, Trolling casting and suckers. They are a true workhorse. Chae

Location: Contrarian Island | I would not use the 7000 for anything you are twitching or ripping...as it doesn't have the instant anti reverse of other reels it can be quite annoying..use the 7000 for anything you are straight retrieving....

Hey guys, in my experience these gold 7000's are junk! I bought one last summer and the spool locked up after about 3 days on LOTW. Sent it to abu when I got home and they replaced it quickly. The next one lasted about 2 trips here on IN waters. Sent this one back with a note asking why these reels say "made in China" on the bottom. They replaced it with a red 7000. The red one only has a 4.1-1 gear ratio but hopefully it will hold up, it says made in Sweden on the sideplate like all the other abu's. My personal experience says the gold ones are not good.
