Posts: 341 | Next time your fishing in the fall or ice fishing try keeping your chest area warm with heating pads. I just watched a cold survival show that tested a heated vest. The test concluded when your upper chest area gets cold your body shuts down the blood supply to your extremities to keep your heart warm. When the vest was turned on the guys hands stayed at 85 degress despite -10 degrees for hours. If your like me gloves can be a pain in the butt so I usually fish with out them and do damage to them every year. The vests will be out soon but for now I may try putting large heat pads on my chest and back and see if I can start leaving the gloves at home. Edited by muskycore 1/31/2005 9:52 PM

Posts: 4266 | I would buy Thermo Care heat wraps by the case if I could. I live with those things on. They help me make it through many days in the boat or up a tree. For someone who gets chilled easily, they keep your entire lower back warm and flexible all day. Beav

Posts: 32953 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I use a breathing filter in very cold weather that keeps the chest and lungs warm. It's made by Polar Wrap. The idea behind the device is keeping the breath warm, therefore keeping the lungs warm. It WORKS! Looks like a fancy face mask. Crash, not to worry, Slamr will buy you a custom muskie rod for sure.

Posts: 91 | i have a buddy who is one of those winter survival guys, and he once explained to me if you keep your kidney area warm the rest of you will stay warm also. something about how your circulation happens around your kidneys or something. all i know is since i started throwing heat packs down the back of my jacket i DO NOT get cold hands, feet or anything else. not directly on your skin, but between your first and second layer of clothing. my jacket has a draw string in it that is the perfect height to keep the packs right where they belong. those heat wrap things sound perfect!

Posts: 341 | I'm excited to try it out. Nothing worse then handeling suckers when it's 25 degrees with 20mph sustained winds. Your freakin hands go so quick you never touch the cold High Life in the cooler. The vest I saw looked pretty hard core, like artic circle crap.

Posts: 4266 | Therma Care heat wraps are like air activated hand warmers that you wear around your waist, with all of the little heating ovals running from hip to hip across your lower back. They say they last 8 hours, but it's more like 12. Great in the boat or the tree stand. www.thermacare.com Beav

Posts: 1046 | Thats right, that kidney area is key. They even make a kidney belt that has pockets to put the hand warmers in. For 15.00 these things work greatttttttttt! I think they are made by HOTHANDS!
