| OK. Perhaps I am a complete idiot, but I cannot figure out how to get to the bulb on my tail light on the trailer.
I took the whole thing off, and since they are submersible, for the most part the bulbs and whatever else is inside are protected by a plastic piece. This piece has a little tab that says "Pull" on it. So I pull and pull and pull and cannot get the barrier off to get into the bulb.
Any idea what I am talking about?

Location: menasha wi 54952 | That is a submersible cartridge. The bulbs themselves cannot be changed. The cartridge is quite common and can be found just about anywhere.

| Actually on the new submersable cartridges you can change the bulbs. At least on my Ranger. My 2002 I couldn't I had to buy the whole assembly. My 2003 it pulls apart but i comes apart very hard.

| It seems like it should come apart because of that tab that says "push" or "pull" on it.
Plus, the wiring goes all the way into the thing with no connectors. So even if I did get a new assembly, I wouldn't know what to do with the wiring.

OK, there are a couple approaches to this. Replace the bulb, or replace the whole unit. Even though it says "Pull" on it, some of these have the lens epoxied on. If you want, you can drill a hole in it big enough to get the old bulb out, the new one in, and then seal the hole with epoxy. The trick to getting the hole big enough is starting with a pilot hole, and then mayb a 1/4". A rat tail file or a Dremel tool will finish the job.
If you decide to replace the whole deal, that is quite simple. I would almost be sure that there is a connector, probably buried in the frame rail. Follow the wires were they go into the frame, and gently pull them from the frame until you see how they connect into the main harness. It here is a connector, you're home free. Just replace the unit. If there is no connector, then you will need to buy mating quick connectors, and some liquid tape. Cut the old wires at a convenient place, strip all the wires, and attach the connectors. Test the light, and if OK, put the liquid tape on the connectoprs, especially cover the ends where the stripped wires were.

Location: Minneapolis, MN | My 2000 trailer came with the old style Webar lights that had a capsule you could open to replace bulb. It has 3 places where there are snap tabs to hold the capsule to the gasket. When I went to replace one that had a leaky gasket I couldn't find the resealable capsules anywhere. All that was available were the permenantly sealed capsules requiring you to replace the entire unit each time a bulb fails. I called Fulton/Wesbar direct and they sold me the old style resealble units over the phone and shipped them to my house. They still make them but apparently their dealers are not ordering them because they want us to buy a whole new unit each time a bulb fails. What a racket!
