I am heading up to Georgian Bay on August-12 of this year. I am going to trailor my rig from Indianapolis, IN to the lake in Canada. Are there any special regulations, which I may not be aware of, concearning lauching my boat in Canadian waters? I assume all I need to fish is a non-resident license? Is this correct? Thank you Todd

It might be different for Georgian Bay but for Lake St Clair we had to stop at customs and get a form for the boat and or trailer (don't remember). The form was good for one calendar year.

If you have any OWI's in the last 5 years, they don't want you to come, but they will issue you a temporary Queen's Pardon once for $150 US. If you wait till you get to the boarder to take care of this it may take an extra day or at least an hour at best. I was told they have the option to refuse it to you, but usually do it as a courtisy so your whole group's trip isn't a waste. Otherwise you can take a chance that they won't check your record. Last year it was kind of funny, we had 3 vehicles in our group and they stopped me. My bud riding with me was the only one in our group with a OWI and he had to pay and we had to wait 1 1/2 hours to process. Kind of makes me wonder how they picked us to run our records. Guess we looked guilty????

After the 5 years are up you can get a perment Pardon that will allow pasage.

I don't get what the big deal is, but luckily the one that I had was a long time ago.

I think that not going to Canada for five years would be the worst part of an OWI.

does anyone know if there is a web adress or phone number where you can give them you name and info to see if you would be allowed in, and if you wouldnt, they could send the forms out for the pardon? it is the reason i havent been to canada for a few years.

Remember that the size limit is 54"s long, I hope you nail a big one, I also hope you aren't coming blind to the area (you will see what I mean wehn you launch if you are). If guides are needed Private message me and I will pass on a very reputable name.

For what it's worth, you guys got me curious about the regs, so interestingly I did find a site where it said for $400, you can have your first and only DWI/DUI/OWI expunged permanently from the canadian computers. The sites I saw said $200 for a one time 30 day pass.

When I originally heard about this a few years back, I thought it was a moral stand....now that I know the law has been around since 1978, and only enforced relatively recently, plus all the money made from it I'm not so sure anymore.

Funny fact, President Bush had to be issued a permanent pardon in order to enter the country because of his previous DUI conviction.
