Posts: 93 Location: Waukesha, WI. | I have been making musky baits for a year now and after spending time on this board I think this is the place to ask the question. The knowledge here is second to none. What do you look for in a bait before you buy it?

Posts: 600 Location: West Bend, WI | I like my gliders to rock&roll. If a bait has a easy glide and belly rolls out, while rocking back and forth all at once then thats the bait for me.

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | I look for something different, something the fish have not seen before. I also look at a bait to see if it fits into my style of fishing or suits an application I may want to try. It also has to be a bait that's not going to fail when fighting a fish.

Posts: 688 Location: Northern IL | A bait only has to be good at 2 things, controlling depth and controlling speed. So when I look at a bait I 1st ask the 2 obvious questions, then 2nd I ask what is it's durability, and then 3rd, what is the cost. You may say where is color, action, or size in this list? And I say that's Small percentage stuff!! I knew most would like that one. We must FIRST,, catch a fish or 3, to find if there is any preference in aids (color, action, or size,,, yes these 3 are only aids in our fishing) that particular day. And only using baits that allow us to control our depth and speed will we have a chance to do so. Ya gotta put it on her nose at what ever depth she may be in, it may be over the weeds or it may be in deep water. There has never been a bait made that would not catch a fish, as long as it has hooks but there are a ton of them that have very little control when it comes to depth and speed and most of them,,, have fancy paint jobs that keep them at the top of sales. I look for control FIRST and everything else should be secondary, but that's not human nature when it comes to selling baits, good luck, Jerry
