| St. Croix PM86MHF vs. PM86HF. Looking for some advice on an all-around rod choice. Not tossing super big or super light lures. Mostly tossing Buchertail 700 sized bucktails, Double No. 8’s or 9’s, Suicks, Depthraiders, regular sized Bulldawgs. Thanks for your comments. |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | if you're going to throw even regular bulldawgs, I would go with the heavy. Medium heavy LT is one of my favorites, but it doesn't have enough oomph for 9's or dawgs (even regs). |

| Go with the heavy. It handles almost everything well, from small bucktails to mag dawgs (it's not ideal for mag dawgs, but it'll work in a pinch). Does everything the MH does, plus some. That model you mentioned is my primary rod. I use it 90% of the time. |

| I have an 8'6" MH and an 8'6" H. I almost never use the MH. It is very light in my opinion but does have it's place. I think heavy is the best all around. |

| I have 3 of the MH and fish baits up to 3 oz with with no problems. They are primarily spinner baits, sm to med tails up to double 8s and sm crank baits. I don't recommend them for jerk or rubber baits. You can toss the smaller baits all day with out killing yourself. I also get a better "feel" of what the lighter baits are doing on the MH v.s. the heavy rod. |

| I have the mh and can tell you from experience it feels like a wet noodle with a 4footer attached. Throws small baits a mile but a big fish will tear you apart with it. The only remedy is a loose drag but then what's the point. Go heavy! |

Location: SE Wisc | You can toss any of those lures you mentioned with either model. My first muskie rod was a premier 8’ mh and I still like it for medium to small bucktails, some diving cranks and “chopper” style topwater. The H would probably be a better choice overall but understand the pros and cons for both, no perfect do-all rod. IMO, the mh is more fun to catch fish on, don’t understand the “tear you apart” as bbeaupre stated. I’d fish em with ultralight gear if I could manage to throw muskie lures with them! |
