Posts: 15 | I am looking for rod recommendations to pair with my Tranx 400. This combo will be used to throw a variety of baits including double 10s, bulldogs, large jerkbaits. My fishing buddy has the 9' Assault stick shock & awe and he really likes it. I am looking for something 8'6 or 9'. Was also looking at Tooth Tamer or Tackle Industry rods. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks all!

Posts: 304 | I have my 400hg paired with a Fenwick Elite Tech Predator 9' XH, and it is my favorite combo I have owned. I think Fenwick is a really underrated, affordable option as far as musky sticks go. I throw rubber and smaller blades with it, and it is awesome. I am not sure why Fenwick doesn't get more love than it does. I have not thrown Legend Elites or custom rods, but I do not really think I will ever buy one, because these rods do everything I need them to for 1/2 the price.

Posts: 27 | Agree wholeheartedly with JVLast. Have a big nasty and a Fenwick predator 9'. I use the Fenwick 75% of the time. Also have TI's in 9 and 8 1/2'. Use the 9' TI probably 20% of the time. Actions on the Fenwick and St. Croix are almost identical, but my big nasty has the new handle, not a big fan of. Plus the Fenwick is almost $200 cheaper. I like the TI's softer tips for certain things, and their customer service is by far the best I have ever dealt with. As an all around rod value hard to argue with either the TI or the Fenwick, pick whether you want a fast action, or more of a medium fast and you cant go wrong,

I extended the handle to 20" and paired-it with a 400TE. It worked well. I bought a Tranx 400HG prior to last season, moved the 400TE to my Top N Tail, and put the 400HG on the Big Nasty. It's an awesome set-up for double 10s, Magdawgs, etc.

Posts: 333 Location: SE Wisc | If it’s an HG you may find it uncomfortable to retrieve 10s all day. It’s perfect for plastic and jerkbaits with the fast line pick up, but a rod that long may make it tough to down twitch jerkbaits depending on how high you’re standing above the water - I like a shorter rod for my jerkbaits. IMO, that reel should be on a mh 8 or 86 for burning small to medium sized blades, an XH or H for plastics, or a shorter jerkbaits rod so you may want to ask yourself what your favorite or most used presentation is before deciding. Just my advise, good luck, tough decisions!
