Been fishing for 10 years in ontario and have never had a ski follow in a hooked pike until this year, and its happened 4 times already. I think its no co-incidence that the hot lure has been a custom durst painted shallowraider in a crappie pattern, its spots must resemble a pike. The most logical chioce was my 10 inch jake in the pike pattern but the fish would'nt look at it. Any other suggestion for a lure in the 8 inch range ? ManitouDan

Here's my pick....

I've only caught 4 muskies but my largest to-date was on this handmade bait made by my brother-in-law Dennis Massie. "Firepike"

Salmo Jack, Good action, unreal finish. Looks exactly like a struggling small pike. I think you can check them out on Salmo website.

I think Radtkes Pike Minnow in 7 and 9 inches would work great.
They look just like a small pike.

Otherwise I thought I saw a great imitation pike bait on cabelas...
I found it. Its a real image esox pike. It looks incredible. Might be a bit small though.

Go to cabelas and type in real image and you should find it.
Hope it helps.

Could you post a photo of the lure? It sounds interesting.

Why don't you have Stan paint you another lure in the 8" size range?

I assume I could , This lure was picked up at a muskie show last winter. Does Stan have shalloraiders available to custom paint ? The lure has a silvery flash to it with dark spots and a little green mixed in. It was waaaay hot this summer. My son caught his 1st ski on it and my nephew borrowed it and caught his 2nd ski. I think I caught 6 or 8 in 2 weeks in ontario. I don't even have the lure here at home to scan , left it at camp up north. Are shallowraiders available ? I've only briefly followed the "bucher tackle mystery" and the shortage of depthraiders. ManitouDan

Salmo also makes a floating and a sinking crank/trolling in a photo-realistic pike. They sure look cool.

hey guys do what i did , send a lure to stan that you don't use and for 6 $ he'll paint it for you what you want.
i did this with a countdown depthraider and he painted a blue and white color and it's awsome for fall and cisco based waters. so give stan a e-mail and he'll help you out..p.s.s. don't send it in the fall because that is when the new lures are being painted.. ask dc cates what he thinks of these colors..

I had a four footer follow a small pike I had on LOTW this year. I twitched and figure 8ed it but only turned her once. Sure would have been cool to get her to hit.

Anyways, I have never had any luck with pike painted lures. Talking with others, they have the same thing. Has anyone had success on them?

H2O Builds a a heck of a glider that looks EXACTLY like a little pike.  I will post pictures as soon as I can get organized from the Sabaskong trip.
