Subject: Lowrance hds transducer question

I just picked up a new hds 7 g2, with LSS2. I got this unit just for the side imaging and mapping overlay.

Since at my work station i already havea unit with a sonar, Is it reuquired to run and hook up the transducer on the new unit i just got. Will it hurt the unit, screw up preformance...? I have not wired it up yet but if i dont have to hook the transducer up i wont because it is a dedicated imaging unit. Thanks
