Location: Muskegon Michigan | Gentlemen, I have not had much time to post here in recent years but had few minutes to scan through the threads here in Basement baits. I see lots of new guys and I am very encouraged to see this. Good craftsmanship in building Musky lures starts right here!!! As many of you know I started out right here and in my basement. I have some tips for many of you on curing Epoxy.
Of course drying wheels ,racks or some form of turning them is a must. I have noticed however some people mentioning heat. When working with metal or plastic heat is not an issue and will speed up drying time. Wood is another story. When you heat up wood beyond 70 degrees you start seeing gas bubbles and this comes from the wood itself. The warmer you heat wood the more it will give off gases. Bubbles will pop up in your top coats and make a mess of them.
When we top coat we shut the heat down to 60 degrees. This not only thickens the Envirotex but keeps baits from developing bubbles. In a cool environment you can pass a propane torch over wet etex to flash it. DO NOT let it warm the lures just take out bubbles. I have this system down to a fine art. W e just dont have any problems applying in 60 to 65 degree temps. If its too warm? Bubbles. Take care and good luck, Mike |
