Subject: Question about hook sets and long rods

I've got a long spinnerbait rod ( 7 footer or 7'2" ) that I love to fish with, I can throw bucktails a mile and twitch minnows like crazy BUT I have lost several fish this year and last with this same rod while boating several with no losses I remember, while fishing with my 6'6 multi-purpose rod that is much stiffer. So does any else have problems driving the hooks home with the longer rod? Could it be the hook on this one spinner -- It's a real heavy hook , the metal is thick -- Do you think you get alot better hook penetration with a thin hook vs a real heavy duty hook ? Thanks ManitouDan
