I just sold my boat and the new boat I am buying doesn't have a fish finder/gps unit at the console, so I am trying to decide what to buy. I am intrigued by the downscan technology and was wondering, is it everything they say it is? I think I really want to have downscan and the ability to use 2D sonar as well. My budget is going to be $900.00. I can get the Humminbird 798CI HD DI unit for $906 at J and H. I have also thought about getting 2 units like an Elite 5 GPS/Fish Finder and just a downscan unit (benefit is having a unit just for GPS and one for DSI etc). Any thoughts? I have had both Lowrance and Humminbird units and I have liked both companies, so I am not favoring either company. I just want to invest my $$$ wisely.
Any help would be great.
