Saturday allowed for around 25 fish to be registered with a number of shorties being reported. I lost a solid fish early (7 am) that hurt a lot, but after hearing all the stories of fish coming unglued by other teams, it suddenly didn't hurt AS BAD. I also had a fish come in hot with mouth half open and ready to eat and just as I tucked my rod in to go into my big oval, the obscure angle I was in required tucking the rod a little too close to my lose button down shirt and the reel handle got wrapped in it. Of course when my reel stopped spinning, the bait stopped dead too and the fish backed off. As fast as I could react to the error, it wasn't fast enough to prevent that fish from wisening up... So 2 botched opportunities within an hour :( Fish were nipping at the bait, as reported by several teams in conversation. A lot of fish came unglued with the back hooks through just the tip of the beak or skin. We lost one Sunday on the 8 that attacked with furocity, but his action in the water only went skin deep as he, too, was hooked only for a moment in the skin in the front of his beak. We saw fish shallow and deep, but two definite patterns were definitely seeing more fish than everything else and it had to do with speed and depth for one, and cover and disturbance for the other. I had several good friends fishing against me for this event and everyone had chances, but it was tough for many to seal the deal. Only 5 more fish registered Sunday, two of which went to the first place team to add to there single the day before, and the same story for the 2nd place team. |
