Location: Palm Coast, FL | LAKE AND RIVER ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM PROJECT SCHEDULED
The Barbee Lakes Property Owners Association will be performing lake enhancement program projects at Kuhn Lake and Little Barbee Lake in Kosciusko County for the next couple of months. The Association was recipients of a grant by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish and Wildlife Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) Section.
There will be three areas dredged utilizing state and association funds and an additional two sites will be privately funded during this time period. Sediment that has accumulated will be removed by hydraulic methods and the areas will be restored back to the historical depths.
Beginning on 10-14-08, the DNR public boat ramp on Kuhn will be closed for three weeks.
During this time the DNR public boat ramp at Grassy Creek is still available.
Additional ramps at the following businesses are also available:
• Anthony’s Anchor Bay Marina on Big Barbee Lake
• Barbee Marina on Little Barbee Lake
• Pine Bay Resort on Sechrist Lake
These ramps are available for a small fee and are considered “in or out” due to no parking available at the sites.
The five project areas are:
• From the DNR public access site on Kuhn Lake approximately 2400 feet lake ward until the lake naturally deepens to allow safe boating.
• The outlet of the channel from Big Barbee into Little Barbee Lake.
• The B8-B9 channel.
• One private channel on Kuhn Lake.
• One private channel between Big and Little Barbee Lakes.

LARE PROGRAM CONTINUED
During the project, the hydraulic dredge and associated pump line will be present. Due to the location of the dewatering basin, pump lines will be located at or near the surface of the lake, and may stretch completely across the lake. The lines may or may not be marked. Extreme caution should be exercised when boating on Little Barbee and Kuhn Lakes during this time period.
Funding for this project comes from a portion of the annual lake and river enhancement fee that registered motorboat owners pay, and also from the Barbee Lakes Property Owners Association.
