Posts: 122 | The First Major Open Championship tournament for the Wisconsin Muskie Tour (WMT) was held on the Eagle River Chain on August 11th and 12th. The tournament would produce the greatest amount of muskies ever registered in a WMT event with 47 fish, surpassing the previous record set in 2006 on the Three Lakes Chain when 42 muskies were measured. The First muskie of the day would be registered by John Kleczewski and Garret Shipman at 6:41am with a 34 3/4 incher. At 7:11am, Tony Warkowczewski and Paul Sviatoslavsky would score on a 35 3/4" muskie and a minute later at 7:12am, the team of Cody Whitehead and Barry Mohr would land a 36 3/4 incher. The father and son team of Richard and Rick Lapp would get in to the action with a hefty 39 1/2" muskie at 7:21am. A 35 1/4" muskie would be tallied by Ivan Stross and Jeff Piazza at 9:24am. The first team to double for the contest would be Jared Adamovich and Tim Miller at 11:12am when they score a 36 1/2 incher to add to their previous catch at 7:48am and measuring 34 inches. At 12:43pm, Tracy and Todd Luedtke would follow suite with their second of 35 inches, adding to their first and the largest muskie of the event that scored 42 1/2 inches at 7:42am. At 1:14pm, another dandy muskie caught by Scott Lewandowski and Dan Dassow that measured 40 1/4 inches. The third team to double for the event would come at 1:49pm when Tom Wilson and Jim Komar scored a 35 1/2" muskie, with their first coming at 1:09pm and 36 1/4 inches. With only eight minutes remaining for the first day of competition, Brad Wirt and Kurt Haggen would score a 35 1/2 incher. The final muskie of Saturday came at 3:39pm, and would be the second for Clay Schmoeker and Mark VanRossum scored on a 35 1/2" muskie to add to their 41 incher at 12:54pm. Other teams to score on muskies for the opening day of the Muskie Masters Open Championship were: Tyler Meier & Scott Lewis 38 3/4" at 6:58am, Jim Spurgeon & Josh Doyen 38" at 7:02am, Brian Gorski & Cory Apfelbeck 40 1/2" at 7:58am, Pete Brezezinski & Chris Conklin 40 1/4" at 8:18am, Bruce Ruberg & Darold Anderson 35 1/2" at 8:40am, Mike Bruggink & Bryan Schaeffer 35" at 9:08am, Rob Meusec & Bob Cook 35 1/4" at 9:29am, Charlie Ross & Jerry Rzepka 35 1/2" at 9:45am, Greg Buckmaster & Andy Regenfuss 34 1/2" at 9:58am, Neil Barnett & Bill Hill 40" at 10:41am, Ron Wiitanen & Don Swanson 35 1/4" at 12:10pm, Brian Krelle & Brent Martin 38 1/2" at 1:26pm, Greg Kliss & Phil Amstadt 38 1/2" at 9:24am, Danny Thomas & Graham McKay 36 1/2" at 12:20pm, Steve Zangl & Justin Norenberg 37" at 3:18pm, and Mark & Robbie Rottier 35" at 3:23pm. Sunday, would find many of the teams who scored on fish the first day, measuring more fish to add to their total inches. The first muskie of the day would come only seventeen minutes in to the day at 6:17am, when Ron Terkel and Dave Mueller measured a 34 1/4 incher. The team of Scott Lewandowski and Dan Dassow would score their second of the event at 7:28am with a 36 1/2" muskie. Tony Warkoczewski and Paul Sviatoslavsky would also tally their second with a 34 incher at 7:49am. The next team to score two would come at 7:54am when Brad Wirt and Kurt Heggen's fish measured 36 3/4". Ivan Stross and Jeff Piazza would also get in to the multiple fish action when they scored a 34 3/4" muskie at 9:31am. By 10:16am, the team of Tim Miller and Jared Adamovich tallied their second of the day and their fourth of the event with a 36 3/4 inch muskie to add to their earlier fish of 34 1/4 inches at 9:33am. Another team to add to their first days catch was Cody Whitehead and Barry Mohr when they registered a 40 1/4" muskie at 10:34am. At 11:11am, Rick and Richard Lapp would tally their second of the day and their third of the event with a 41 3/4 inch muskie to add to their early morning fish of 34 1/4" at 8:32am. Other teams that measured muskies on Sunday were: John Janz and Mike Moore 35" at 6:49am, Doug Grant & Jack Myatt 35 1/2" at 7:18am, Jim Rutkowski & Doug Steiner 35 1/4" at 10:31am, and Randy Pearson & Bob Dekker 36 1/2" at 10:36am. The WMT's Muskie Masters Open Championship paid down five places: 1st - Jared Adamovich/Tim Miller 2nd - Rick & Richard Lapp 3rd - Tracy & Todd Luedtke 4th - Cody Whitehead/Barry Mohr 5th - Dan Dassow/Scott Lewandowski 6th - Clay Schmoeker/Mark VanRossum 7th - Brad Wirt/Kurt Heggen 8th - Jim Komar/Tom Wilson 9th - Ivan Stross/Jeff Piazza 10th - Tony Warkoczewski/Paul Sviatoslavsky The next two tournaments for the WMT will be the R.A.M.M. Cup Open Championship on the Manitowish Chain August 18 & 19, and the Badgerland Open Championship on the Three Lakes Chain, August 25 & 26. The WMT's Major Open Championships are open to the public with a limit of 150 two-angler teams, and will pay-out a first place prize of $20,000.00 (with a full field). The registration headquarters for the Manitowish Chain tournament will be at the Little Bohemia Restaurant on Friday the 17th, and the registration headquarters for the Three Lakes Chain tournament will be at the Big Stone Lake Golf Course, Friday the 24th. There are three qualifying tournaments remaining for the 2007 season, with the final Invitational Championship being held on the Sugar Camp Chain, September 29th & 30th.
