| For the last seven years, the WMT has hosted a muskie tournament on Lake Mohawksin and it has proved to be the most popular of all qualifying tournaments, filling to capacity early in the year with a long waiting list of teams, hoping for a cancellation of a confirmed team. This year, the WMT will be adding another Tomahawk area lake to the 2007 schedule that is sure to be just as much fun to fish – Lake Nokomis. The Lake Mohawksin tournament will be on Saturday, June 16th and Lake Nokomis on Sunday, June 17th.
The Mohawksin tournament has been very popular with the WMT competitors not only for the superb muskie fishing, but also for the wonderful hospitality the people and businesses of the Tomahawk community have shown the WMT. Adding Lake Nokomis , with it’s history of producing muskies that are forty inches and larger on a regular basis, will further enhance the “Tomahawk experience” for every tournament angler and spectator.
If history is an indication, the Lake Mohawksin tournament will fill to capacity very shortly and ensure full pay out of $10,000.00 to the first place team. Though this is the first year the WMT has visited Lake Nokomis, a tournament of at least sixty teams is anticipated and will also pay $10,000.00 to the first place finishers. However, if a team should win both tournaments on the same weekend, this year they will win the “Muskie Double Header™” and receive an extra $10,000.00 bonus, bringing the total earnings for the weekend to $30,000.00.
The headquarters for the Lake Mohawksin tournament will be at Sara Park and RR Gators for the Lake Nokomis tournament. The public is welcome to attend the awards ceremony at both tournaments at 5:00pm following each event at the designated headquarters. The starting point for the Lake Nokomis tournament will be at Schaeffer’s Wharf.
The first place prize money is $10,000.00 in one-day tournaments that have a field of 60 teams. The WMT is open to the public to compete in all qualifying tournaments. A team can fish one event, or as many they prefer. The cost per tournament per two-angler team is only $300.00. The WMT is a twenty-one tournament circuit, hosting tournaments on some of the world’s best muskie waters in Wisconsin. Men, women and young anglers of all skill levels have enjoyed the camaraderie and competition that the WMT has offered over the years.
