For the seventh year in a row, the Wisconsin Muskie Tour (WMT) will be hosting a one-day catch and release muskie tournament on the Phillips Chain of Lakes. The WMT has continued to make the Phillips Chain a regular stop on the tour because it is a quality fishery, producing some of the best length averages in the WMT eighty-seven tournament history. Also, the Phillips community and local businesses have been very friendly and welcoming towards the tournament and competing anglers, making the choice to return an easy one.

In 2006, local residents Steve Schneider and Bob Cook took first place in the WMTs Phillips tournament in a field of fifty-five boats, the largest field to ever compete in a muskie tournament on the chain. This year, the WMT is expecting a full field and pay out the $10,000.00 first place prize. In addition to winning the Phillips tournament last year, Steve Schneider partnered with his brother Mike Schneider the day before and captured second place at the WMTs Butternut Lake tournament in Park Falls, making for a fantastic weekend of fishing. New to the WMT this year is the Muskie Double Header that will pay out a bonus of $10,000.00 if a team should win both the WMTs Phillips and Butternut tournaments on the same weekend, giving that team a paycheck of $30,000.00 for the weekend. Steve Schneider will surely look to repeat his Phillips victory and go up one notch at the Butternut tournament in order to take advantage of this new program.

Headquarters for the tournament will be at Birch Island Resort and Harbor View Pub & Eatery. The public is invited to attend the awards ceremony and talk with the anglers at Harbor View on Saturday, June 2nd at 5:00pm.

The first place prize money is $10,000.00 in one-day tournaments that have a field of 60 teams. The WMT is open to the public to compete in all qualifying tournaments. A team can fish one event, or as many they prefer. The cost per tournament per two-angler team is only $300.00. The WMT is a twenty-one tournament circuit, hosting tournaments on some of the worlds best muskie waters in Wisconsin. Men, women and young anglers of all skill levels have enjoyed the camaraderie and competition that the WMT has offered over the years. To enter the tournament and for more information log onto the WMTs website (www.wmtseries.com), email [email protected], or call 715-369-1394.
