Location: Germantown, WI | My Dad, brother and I just returned from a week on Lower Buckhorn Lake in the Kawartha's. While we struggled to establish a consistent pattern all week we did manage to boat and release 18 muskies for the week. The largest was 42" with 2 others at 41". Weed growth was lower that normal for this time of year and water temps seemed a bit on the cold side, but that may change with the hot weather that was just arriving as we were leaving. Our most consistent pattern was trolling jointed Wiley crankbaits 6' down on the weedlines in 13'-15' of water, but we spent most of our time casting. Jerkbaits were producing numbers, but not size while bucktails seemed to produce size rather than numbers. As the weather gets warmer bucktails should begin to produce more strikes and topwaters will become more effective. A couple of memorable fish this week were the 39" that my brother caught on a bucktail on a blind figure-8 at boatside after dark and a 34" that ate my topwater at boatside with only the leader between the lure and the rod tip.
