Location: Chautauqua Lake | I just wanted to share last weekends fishing experience at Chautauqua Lake. I was out fishing for largemouth bass (Sacrilege!) Saturday evening with my bait casting outfit (12 lb. mono and a 3/8 oz. spinner bait). Water temperature was 72 degrees and we were not having much action when this muskie hit. I saw that he was an impressive size and knew that if I was to have any luck in landing him, I had to play him and tire him out. After about 15 minutes, I one armed him into the boat (didn’t have a net). I very quickly got the single hook out of his lip, measured, and got my fishing buddy to take a few pictures. He measured 42” and was taken in the weed beds in about 6-7 feet of water, about 100’ off shore. I released him back to grow biggerhave a bigger as I already have a bigger one on the wall, 48”, 31 lbs.
Also, hooked into one Saturday morning, about 34-36” range. Had him on for a few minutes and did a water release without boating. Maybe this weekend I'll actually take my muskie gear out in the boat!
By the way, if anyone is interested in fishing Chautauqua Lake in September, I have a 2 bedroom lakefront cottage with dock available for rent. It is located in Stow, opposite Bemus Point. Contact me off line if interested.
