Location: Racine, Wi		How many of you run planer boards and suckers while drifting and casting? This fall, SE WI has been having a tremendous sucker bite, but it would be cool to run one off the real deep side of the boat. That being said, how do you attach it to the board? Are you keeping it clipped in, and bringing in the sucker slowly when there is a fish on it, then taking it off before setting the hook? Or are you setting it loose, so that you can pin the fish and have the line pop out of the clips and pick up the board later?

Location: oswego, il		Tuffy1, I have tried it. I used my mr walleye boards, attached normally which is the best way. The problem is the hookset. You cannot get straight with the fish. Been there, the board inhibits the hooket but it sure does put the sucker where you want it. Just make sure you are on a trolling legal water. I imagine even if your trolling motor was in the water and off, a warden would not like the look of it.

Location: Racine, Wi		I hear ya for the trolling thing. I was thinking Pewaukee, and Okauchee for this.
The hookset is where I was looking for info. I know JoMusky was doing this opening weekend, and it looked like a good application in some areas, but not sure how to get hookups. And the way my sucker fishing is, I need as much help on the hookset as possible. (although, this year has been getting better for hooking the fish)

Location: Wishin I Was Fishin'		I lost a fish on a board 2 weeks ago.....was keeping a good eye on it...noticed the board fell off the line....grabbed the pole...only pulled up weeds and no sucker....clicker didn't go off or anything. Great concept...but I'm leaning back towards small bobbers. We were working a weedline and had the board out towards deeper water. Maybe a different board...smaller would work better?

Location: oswego, il		Joe, I still think the inherent problem is that your line is not straight down to the sucker and unless you can pop that board, you can't get a proper hookset. You are really just jerking the board which has to transfer direction then to the sucker and it is not enough force.

I have been using boards on suckers for years. It is an awesome way to run a sucker TIGHT to structure, when the fish are up tight on the rocks, or shallow weeds, or run a sucker way OFF of structure, if they are suspending late in the year. I use OffShore Boards...big yellow ones. They pull the sucker either tight to structure, or way out in the abyss if I'm running two suckers, or the fish are out deep.

In Canada, you're allowed only one line per person, so I try and fish four out of the boat late in the year, and have one rod straight down in my hand, and have one of the other guys sitting watching a board. When the sucker gets hit, I give the rod a quick small snap, and the board releases.(When I attach the board, I barely clip the line at the end of the clip) I then go back to the fish, and make sure my angle is good, and the fish is moving away. Then BOOM....it is all @$$&$ & elbows for a few minutes!!

Location: Racine, Wi		That is what I was looking for Donnie. Thanks a bunch. So all I would have to do is lightly clip them on in that case. Sounds like I need to work on that as to not make the fish drop if it is too tight on the clip.
