Posts: 90 | Hi Mike , I enjoy your posts. Could you please provide info on where you purchase your Tica MHSA series rods? I'm having a hard time locating a dealer other than Rollie& Helens. I live in the Twin Cities area, but I am willing to order from anywhere. Just want to do some comparison shopping. Thanks. Ted

Posts: 443 Location: Indiana | How big is the handle on these rods? I typically like a fat cork and a long rear handle. My 7.5' St. Croix Premier's are about right, but fatter would be fine. Does anyone have a comparison of the two? Mike Edited by mseybert 8/30/2006 6:18 PM

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I order mine directly from Tica. http://www.ticaglobal.com They are located in Kent Washington. I believe Baldy is correct as well, Thorne Bros. should have them.

Posts: 72 | Right now all we carry is the 8' and 8'6" but will be bringing in more of the rods next year. Got a chance to compare an old All-Star Big Game Series 6'10" to a Tica 6'10" and they are almost identical except the Tica is a little more heavy physically (thicker walled blank). The handles are EXACTLY the same--butt cap, rear grip length and diameter, reel seat and foregrip length/shape/diameter. Didn't look that close at the guides. The actions were nearly identical. I say nearly because the All-Star is over 5 years old and well worn and softer where the Tica was brand new and stiffer--but the curve of the blank was the same. Between the Ticas and the Shimanos, there are a lot of really nice rods available for little money (around $100). Hope this helps, Brett Erickson www.thornebros.com

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | Brett is exactally correct. These rods were built off of the older All Stars. Very nice rods and the 8'6 is AWESOME.

Posts: 443 Location: Indiana | Gotta admit, I am a little leary of the telescoping handle. Is it alright? It doesn't try to collapse while fishing does it?

I would say the telescope down about 10" or so so maybe 7'2" roughly

Posts: 613 Location: big cove tannery pa | I just purchased a 8ft tica telescopic rod that telescopes down to 6ft, my question is can i use it telescoped down at 6ft or should i use it at 8ft. Will it hurt the strength of the rod? thank you

Posts: 814 | I don't think it will hurt the strengh of the rod...but they are meant to be used extended only. I think they telescope down for storage issues since alot of boats don't have an 8'6'' rod locker.

Posts: 2024 | For those of you that own this rod, can you compare its weight to another rod? Premiers? My old man has trouble throwing muskie gear all day long, currently he mainly uses a Fenwick HMG 7'6" or St. Croix Premier 7'. I'd like him to be able to effectively figure 8 without having to bend over too much. I feel an 8'6" is perfect, and if it telescopes down to fit in our rod box even better! Thanks!

Posts: 14 Location: Sweden | Hi mike, I´m very interested in those rods as well, and for the moment i´m using a Diamondback 6.9 2-5 oz rod for my jerkbaits. However, i need a rod that i can use for those heavy jerks like beerbelly 8 and hustler 9, and i also want to use it for mag dawgs and supermag daws. The question is should i go for the 8´6 or the 8? You think the 8`6 is too long for jerkbaits? Thx/Arne Zachrisson

Posts: 147 Location: WI - Land of small muskies and big jawbones | Brett, I see you compared rod handles on 6' 10" rods from both Tica & All Star and they apparently are the same. I have asked a few times around the boards how the rod handles on the 8' and 8' 6" Tica rods and All Star rods compare to one another and have yet to get an answer. I am mainly wondering about the length of the handles and how they compare. No one close to me carries Tica Rods so I can't go see for myself. Are they the same? Is one shorter than the other? Does anyone know? Thanks.
