Probably been a year since I've been here. I just brought home this boat after buying it in MN. Has a 2003 Suzuki 115 4 stroke on it with 250 hours. Bought it from the original owner who only trailered it less than 2 miles to the access on Lake Emily. Longest trip it had were roundtrips to Remer for routine maintenance. It literally looks brand new inside and out. Here's some questions:
1) I bought a 9 inch Garmin to go on this boat. Recommended Ram mount is a D sized medium arm or short arm. They seem so heavy. Will the console deck support this sized mount? Can I get by with the C sized mount if I can get the holes aligned?
2) I want to put in a Scotty rod mount on the inside edge of the gunnel behind the single console driver's seat. I also need to put on a bimini top to protect my old skin from the sun. I'll have to set those bimini rails on the inside top edge of the gunnel as this boat has a new 85 snap canvas cover with it. Where on the gunnel and how deep can I drill and set screws for both of these? Can I take off the throttle and remove that vinyl cover over the wiring to get a better view of what I have inside there?

If it's a newer Garmin doesn't it have a quick disconnect? Do you need a ram mount?

I'm just asking because I've had issues with ram mounts slipping, resulting in an out of position graph. I wouldn't down-size. On my current boat I just mounted the factory Garmin U brackets and couldn't be happier.

Congratulations on your new boat. My experience with the smaller "C" mounts have not been good. They typically fail to hold the depth finder in place if there is any wave or road action. I would mount the Scotty using the Crestliner sure mount system. I know the gunnel tops in alumacraft are fairly hard aluminum and assume they are the same in crestliner but you should be able to drill and screw almost anywhere allow the gunnel. I believe they also make horizontal top plates for the sure system and that may be an option of the bimini as well.

Thanks for the advice on the C sized mounts. The size D Ram mount is the recommended mount for the Garmin 93 SV. I do not believe the gimbell mount will fit in the space given that the windshield has to go on. The whole D apparatus is 8+ pounds and just looks like overkill. Of course I have been known to overthink simple solutions to simple problems. We took out the cupholder and noted that there is a sub deck below the console material that appears fairly thick and substantial.

I would use a different mount. The RAM ball really isn't that great. As far as limitations on space. You could mount it on the gunnel to the right of the console. The RAM swing arm would hold it well. The Ball RAM can and will move around after a while. My 2013 fish hawk probably has more space than yours and I have 2 9" graphs mounted to it and it holds. But I don't know what yours is like.

One single console on this Fish Hawk. I went to the Cabelas/Bass Pro site and found that. Great reviews with pics of it on a console very similar looking to mine.

Balzout mount is pricey. I'm headed to Scheels tomorrow to look at the RAM swing arm. Thank You everyone!

The swing arm is completely different from the ball mount RAM's and doesn't slip like the ball mounts. I've had both and you'll be find with the swing arm

CISCO MOUNT is another great electronics mount. it will hold any size unit you'll ever upgrade to!

I’ll second Cisco mounts. They are among the most solid. I mount mine with the lever towards me so I can adjust the angle for my situation but they have never moved.
