I'll be the first to admit I'm cheap when it comes to most stuff -- including musky equipment. That's why I was pretty excited about ck'ing out the yard sale at Smokey's this past Sat. Well, I did come home with a new musky lure, but it wasn't one of the bargains from the used lures that were for sale. Totally out of character, I broke down and bought my most expensive lure to date - a Power Probe from Wood-on-the-Water made by Randy Vergiel from Pewaukee, Wisc. Smokey's regular price was $29.95 but he had them marked down to $24.95 for the day of the yard sale. What sold me was that Randy was there demo'ing these things. Very cool lure! I found a pretty good thread in the archives (May 2000) on Muskie Central which discusses these lures - if you're interested. So, what is your most expensive musky lure and how much did you pay for it?

Mine is the Castaic Trout crankbait, $29.95 from Cabelas. I don't think I could pay any more than 30 for a lure, unless it guarantees a trophy fish.

$20 bucks is the most I will spend on a lure. However I am not afraid to spend $350 on a good rod and reel set up.

I dont think you get what you pay for with the expensive lures,that I have seen. Rods and reels on the other hand are a whole different story.

To date nothing over twenty bucks- But I to was very impressed w/ Randy's "Power Probe"- and also Brian Susler's "Punisher". It was great to see the actual lure's being worked by the designer & then trying it your self-[8)] unfortunately I didn't have the loose pocket change w to pickup/spend $60 for 2 new baits- [:p] (I'll have to return to Smokey's in near future- [:bigsmile:] ) But I also got a few bargains at the yard sale- Special thank's to John Laimon for holding the event.

Hey,

Probably not what your talking about, but my Uncle's Father in Law has a replica GLOBE musky lure used way back in the day. He can't find it but claims its in one of his boxes. He said he had a guy offer him $125 for it. I don't collect lures or anything but it sure would be cool to have that one!!!

I paid $32.00 for a Hughes River at Smokeys. Turned out it was a good deal, considering they go for $70-80 on ebay! lol

One Legend "Plow" 13" that was Black with Silver Glitter,after shipping it to Stan Durst and having it repainted in the "Durst Secret Color" the crankbait has a ending price tag of about $65.
But then again I own 57 "Plows" that cost $45 each! Capt. Larry

Shep, kinda hard to tell.... little suckers keep squirming everytime I put the brush to them! The alpha male I''ll do in a blackbird pattern, the 3 females I''ll do in shad, blueback herring + firetiger. The runt will be tie dyed + kept as a pet! [:0] [:sun:]

I swore I would never pay more than $20 for a musky lure. Man, I hope my wife never finds out what some of these baits cost now. I actually paid $50 for a LeLure Fetch 'N Catch (basically a jointed creeper). I haven't caught a fish on it yet but it looks gosh darn good! The guy I bought it from just about had a stroke when I told him I was going to use it. Collectors edition you know....

Muskiekid.... we all wanted to be like her growing up + would trick or treat w/ a fruit basket on our head. Mine kept falling off so I had it sewn to my scalp! Worst part is until the fruit grows back each spring it looks more like a hornets nest. Saw her on T.V. not long ago....still looks as good as she did 40 yrs. ago! Only wish she'd done a live one on the Ed Sullivan Show![:sun:]

A little off the wall, but I have a set of 8 rigged 14" Marlin baits worth about $65.00 Cdn. each ($40.00 U.S.). Also have a set of six 16" Ukkos that would hurt to replace as well.

I think my most expensive bait is a prototype muskie sized Eppinger spoon that I bought off of eBay. It may be a one of a kind, only I didn't know this when I bought it. (Found out when the guys at Eppinger wanted to buy it from me.) Close behind this will be 2 mint Pfleuger Mustangs in their original boxes that I picked-up at a yard sale for $10.00 Cdn. each. Not sure of their exact value, but I do know it is likely about ten times what I paid for them. None of these baits have seen or ever will see the water.

Hi,

My most expensive bait is a plain old Mepps, that caught my first Musky. After that I was hooked and have spent thousands since.

To answer the real question, the single most expensive bait I own is a Magic Maker, it cost about $25.00.

BUT Boro has bought 2 Magic Makers....haven't ya buddy? Little guy had to buy me one after getting DEFEATED in a personal challenge! My most expensive bait is a shaker that I got for $25, and a bunch of $20 guys: cobbs and a Top Prey.

mine's a giant nilsmaster that sold at 25$, other than that I mostly build my own baits which catch just as good. If you should take all costs and working hourrs of those in account, I'd bet they cost more than that!

If you like the power probe, try trolling it.WOW!!!

My most exspensive lure is the HR. 40 bucks. Almost bought another one last weekend. Great bait even though they have a hefty price tag. Won't be buying a whole lot of baits now. Just got a bill from my lawyer and I could buy a fully loaded lund explorer with what i owe. OUCH![:(]

$39.00 for an HR Shaker. I loved the bait until about 2 hours later when the paint started stripping off the tail in big sheets. Now the bait soaks up water. Shouldn't be long before I have a "natural" color HR. [:(]
