| Here's what I've found to be true about the following epoxies:
Devcon 30-min.
Drys clear and does NOT ever yellow. Its the hardest top coat I've ever come across. An excellent choice for single coating a lure. Can become brittle if not allowed to cure under ideal or close to ideal temperature and humidity conditions (consult the paperwork). Failure of topcoat is more common if there is ANY moisture remaining in the paint. Oil and solvent-based paints must have an appropriate time to off-gas completely or the epoxy will lift and peel - no matter if you apply one or two coats of epoxy.
Envirotex Lite
Drys clear and won't yellow. An extremely durable, long-lasting topcoat and works best when applied as a 2 coat finish. It is at its best when used on hardwood and dense plastic lures. In comparison to other epoxies, it seems to bond better to water-based paints than the others do. Highly recommended on top of lacquers. Downside: single coats tend to fail more of the time if the cure is not done on a drying wheel. For the impatient, Envirotex takes too long to set up.
I've tried others too, but in my book, these are the two best epoxies. | |
