| I live in western pa and i am unable to get much fishing done to large amounts of rain that have everthing that is no longer frozen 10 feet high and the color chocalate milk. So as i sit here waitng to get fishing i was wondering what your early season baits are. The ones that i have found to work best are tight wobbling stick baits such as the f18. |

| What is the f 18? A rapala?
I too am from the Western Penn. We have had a lot of rain. But I don't think it's spring yet. March is a struggle between winter and spring. Spring always wins, but winter still bites us, doesn't it? In any event, have you tried the 6" Jake or 6" Grandma? I downsize my hooks on the Jake to a # 1 to get better action--you ain't going to catch a fish if it won't hit the lure. Have you tried the 5.5" Wiley? These are pricey but have a great track record in our neck of the woods. In fact, I'd bet they'd work anywhere. Fish aren't in shallow water? Have you tried the 6" Depthraider? What about an in-line spinnerbait with a # 5 blade? Isn't that the regular Musky Killer from Mepps? |

| I mostly fish in the allgehny river and the musky tend to gather at the creek mouths and at the locks when the suckers and walleye are schooling to spawn. I have caught more than one in march and the rapala f 18 seems to work best for me but i will try ur suggestions.

| Try small gliders like a 6" soft tail phantom, squirko, or small rubber like a Live Action lures "small joe"...maybe reg size or spring dawgs..
I've caught some fish on showgirl sized bucktails and small spinnerbaits earlier in the year too...
We cant fish here till May, so my results are from a higher water temp than you probaly have now.. But thats what I would try first.. |

| I have caught a few on smaller inlines in the early spring. i have not tried the smaller gliders. so many lures to buy yet. I have what i thought was a large selection but after joining this board i realize i have a long way to go. |

Location: Sw Pennsylvania | 5.5 and 6 jointed wileys, leo shayla shads, tuff shads and super shad raps produce a few fish for me in the spring. Spring is my toughest season to get bite on the river, and the one time of the year that trolling produces more fish then casting on the river for me. Bright colors produce the best for me. |

| I'm here in western pa as well. I know what u mean about the water it is terrible. I fish pymatuning a lot and have been to the outflow a few times already but no luck yet. I like throw super shad raps, mepps bucktails and 6" sledges work pretty good for me as well early on. |

Location: VA | I like Muskie Train MX6's and showgirls. Pot Belly Hoosier Gliders and Hell Puppys. Don't be afraid to throw the bigger stuff 10" jakes and Magnum Dawgs.

| I second the Muskie Train MX6's two years in a row some of the largest May fish in my boat were on them. (50.5" May 2009 and 49.5" May 2010) Our season opens the first Sat. in May and thats the first bait that goes in the water for me.
They are great for twitching or trolling.

| I also fish in western pa mostly mon river cause its in my back yard. Don't forget about blue fox musky bucks put many a fish in my boat put a lot of people on there first skies with them I also like crane baits 206's and 207's used them on the allegheny last fall lost two and raised 3 others on cranes |

I fish down south in the spring and have found that when the water is chocolate milk color that you need to use really bright colors like, chartreuse,orange,yellow ,white and loud , noisey lures like Rattle baits, Cowgirls, Invaders, Believers, Jake's , ect.ect. work well
Fish shallow and structure... even when the water is muddy the fish will still be there....

Location: Pennsylvania | I fish the potomac river and it is high and muddy also. I mainly throw smaller mepps and buchertails this time of year. Also rattletraps and the rapala F18's are a killer lure this time of year. firetiger is a good color for early spring. Pick up a couple 4" suicks also,great little jerkbait!!!
I picked up a couple hammerglide 400 series by sledgehammer lures and am interested in seeing how they run.

Location: Sycamore, IL | Yep...8 inch jointed believer in firetiger is a safe bet or a lemon head shallow invader. Loud colors and lots of noise so the fish can find your lure in the murkiest of water. Have fun!

Location: Shawano, WI | im in Northern Wisconsin and I use the Phantom softails, Baby Shallow & depthraiders, small crane baits, the Original Mepps musky killers, spinnerbaits.... Ive also had luck on the regular bulldawgs... also had luck throwing your bass and pike lures thundersticks, rapalas, etc |

+1 and I'll add you need to maybe slow down a whole lot. My first choice would be a Hirshes Ghosttail bucktail because you can bring those guys in ever so slow. Lots of thump and time for the fish to target and swipe at the bait. Maybe also double on your 8's if the water is so dirty you can't hardly see your bait.
