Hi all,

I have recently purchased a new rod for throwing big rubber and am looking for some reviews/thoughts on reels. I am leaning towards a Saltist levelwind 20 (or maybe 30) and would like to hear what others have tried and either like, or don't like, about the ones they have used. I have owned nearly everything at one time or another (Daiwa, Abu, Shimano, Pfleuger, etc.) and have my own likes and dislikes of each. I really like my Toros for comfort reasons, but worry about the life expectancy from the strain of big baits. I also have an LJV, but after stripping the threads on the handle shaft from ripping Dawgs after 2 days in Canada last year, not interested in going down that road again. Would appreciate some feedback from people that have a dedicated reel for big rubber/big cranks. This will not be a big blade reel at all as I will be using the LJV for that purpose. A level wind is a must for me. Thanks for any help.

I use a calcutta as well. But also throw them with my Toro or AC300. Its not really a big deal. Large blades generally require a better reel IMO than large plastics.
