Posts: 94 Location: Pewaukee | I’m going to be taking the kids up there this summer. I’m hoping to get them on anything that bites (smallies, northerns, not panfish). They are able to abs enjoy casting. I’ll head out for musky on my own. Ive never fished it before Anyone have any suggestions? Possibly get a guide for 1/2 day? I’ll be staying on Lake Bastine.

Posts: 20181 Location: oswego, il | I'd go in June the lake can get warm in July. If you find weeds and reeds you will find pike and there's a billion small in size. Small topwater, spinnerbaits and spinners will do. Wood and rock.cranks and small topwater for smallies. Walleyes can be everywhere. Good crappies too but pike are super easy. Watch for stumps they are enormous. Edited by ToddM 1/5/2022 5:09 PM

Posts: 94 Location: Pewaukee | Thanks for the information. I am planning on June actually. That sounds like it would be right up their ally. I have a lakemaster plus chip so I hope I can stay out of trouble. I read a few reviews saying it’s a pretty difficult chain to navigate with all of the underwater hazards. Do you know if I should just focus on Lake Bastine and the main river channel or venture out into the 13k acres?

Posts: 48 | June is a great time up there if you can miss the mayfly hatch, which varies in time and intensity. Find the cabbage weed and you can fish slip bobbers with 1/2 a crawler and catch perch, walleye and smallies. Muskies will be there too. I avoid Bastine. Just busier over there and my place is on the other side of Big Island. If you have the chip, go explore! It’s a beautiful boat ride either direction. Water will be at full pool then and a lot safer traveling (as safe as it gets). Topwater and bucktail time.

Posts: 94 Location: Pewaukee | I’ll have to check that out on the new Fishing Hot Spots full sized map I bought. I’m not into hard water fishing so figuring where to hit on lakes is what keeps me going this time of the year

Which cabin are you staying at on Lake Bastine?
