I think this a Esox Cobra Mag 2oz. I either run it fast like a swim jig through the tops of shallow weed cover or if I'm on steep breaks with wood and rock and smallies I'll run it more traditionaly on bottom until I think it's too deep/out of structure than I'll short jerk rise and slow retrieve on the fall, than repeat till back at the boat. Caught a fair amount of pike, a few large smallies, and 2 small muskies follow. I don't really throw it too much in all truth.
My brother on the other hand is a big fan of the 1.oz cobras and he thins out the skirts by about 50% by trimming it a 1/2" down from the skirt band. Than he uses whatever live bait on hand: caught creek clubs, cut ciscoes, smelt, northern suckers, shiners, small gills, etc. Whatever he can get around that 4-6" length. He hooks em through the mouth, than through the side, than spin and through the side again. He rips em with short violent jerks over cover than let's em fall at edges. His landing ratio is terrible due to the little amount of hook exposed but he gets pounded by everything doing it.

Yet to catch a Muskie on a jig but I try time to time! Like Steve said all black or black and orange. I have a Curtis Creature with a gloss black blade and I painted the back orange. Also this winter I'm going to tie some marabou to some jig heads.

All black, black/blue combo, green pumpkin, and pumpkin are all colors I've had success on. Basically I use the same colors I do for fishing largemouth if I'm fishing them slow and contacting bottom. I have used a white/ shad color for swimming up in the water column.

Do you guys actually get them right on the bottom? Or, more like on the fall close to the bottom?

I would run a.stinger on the live bait jig

What about this guy? Do you think he could get bit or would he be rejected because his shirt and pants don't match?

I found the jig head in my tackle box and I paired it with the 6" shakers I ordered from Rollie and Helens on Black Friday.
