I got into a 2017 this winter with a 250 verado pro. Just wondering what people are getting for performance out of there 620 and how they have it set up?

Just got back from opener and was little let down on performance mainly hole shot. So I got some tinkering to do. We had 4 adults and 3 kids in the boat with not much gear and no water in the livewell. We were getting close to capacity but in my mind it should still be capable. It seemed like an eternity to get on plane. A little worried about when I start getting a few musky boxes in there, along with more gear and 2 or 3 people is it going to do the same.

Looking at what I need to change - lower pitch/different prop, jackplate, trim tabs, hyrofoil, move the motor.....

Took the kids out bass fishing sunday afternoon and did pretty good, was happy.

What I got

Verado pro 250 (L6)
mounted in the middle hole
bravo 1 22p
9.9 kicker
58 mph at 6140-6180rpms.

Also was wondering if people have problems with water coming over the transom when coming off plane. And it isn't like i was coming off plan real fast either. It'll shoot up from between the transom and engine mount, then also seems like quite a bit is deflected off the shaft of the motor. So I dont know.... Seemed like the best way to get away from it was get about off plane and give it some throttle at the end or turn at the end.

Check to see if you are taking on water into the bilge area from the back wash as you come off plane. Backwash is very common in both 619s and 620s and if your auto bilge pump is not be working, water will find its way into the bilge area. Very common for 619s and 620s to hold a lot of water from backwash if the auto bilge pump is not working. I have personal experience with this. Check to pump. Hope this helps.

58 doesnt seem bad out of a heavy boat like a 620 with a 250 on it.

Motor height has to be diagnosed on plane at ideal trim. If the cavitation plate is below the water line, it is too deep and the motor needs to be raised. This will help hole shot, top speed, and increase rpm’s since drag is reduced. The other mentions in this thread can’t be ignored, but performance is not a one stop shop.

Thanks.

Not enough water to make a difference. I checked it. I ran the manual bilge. I even opened the drain plug at night when sitting on the lift. Not much came out.

I have never heard of them having backwashing issues. I wished I would of know more it about before. So far, it is pretty annoying.

Next time im able to get it out with someone, I'll have to go to the back and look while on plane.

Yeah Im pleased with the top end. I just hope I can find a way to keep it and not plow water for a 200' before I get up on plane with any kind of load.

im not familiar with that exact setup so cant give a recommendation, but you should be able to get the hole shot you want with tuning. you might end up giving back some top speed. I fish a lot of big water and holeshot and low on plane speed are priority for me. ive had to tune every boat ive had to get the performance i need.

besides all that is mentioned above, try as best you can to make sure weight is balanced in the boat. i know that seems obvious but have seen this many times as its easy to pile stuff into the back of a boat.

also...if you have not try fiddling with the vent plugs on the prop, if they are all plugged you might get what you need just with that...edit i see stock bravo 1 does not have the PVS system so thats not going to help

i would maybe try a REV4 on it, its more of a stern lift prop from Merc site:

"Offers more stern lift than the Bravo I FS to improve the angle of attack in certain applications"

I have ran 19P, 20P and 21P Rev 4’s on my 620 with the Verado Pro 250. 21P definitely doggy out of hole but not bad if lightly loaded. Up to 63mph. I like the 19 and 20P a lot better for the reasons RJ_692 stated. These pitches perform much better in rough water and give you a lot more low speed control and quicker holeshot. Can get 60mph out of the 20P at right around 6300rpm lightly loaded. 58ish with 19P right at 6400 same load. For me between a 19 or 20P Rev 4, it’s a toss up... Rev 4 is a very solid performer.

The backwash will only solve itself if you really ease off plane. My back deck is wet 90% of the time...

I was pretty conscious of were the weight was in the boat. Heavier people in the front seats, lighter in the back.

The bravo 1 does have vent plugs. It had with solid and put small hole plugs in. It did help some. I might try to find the large ones or drill the small holes bigger, the next time am able to get it out.

Sounds like I should look into a rev 4....

Thanks for the replies.
