If you were looking at used custom built rod would it make a difference if the owners name was on it? Would you want to offer less $$ or not?

Any rod builder with an airbrush could remove and recoat the section where the name is without anything obvious in its place.

Years ago I got a rod at Cabela's in the bargain cave for 40 bucks (bass sized bait caster) because it said it was 6 FT and it was really was 6 1/2 FT caught hundreds of fish on this rod !

Someont I know bought a name brand rod which had a person's name on it. He broke it tried to get the standard warranty and they denied him because it had another person's name on it.

Sounds like it might be a good idea to have the name removed prior to selling

How does thorne bros compare with other rod manufacturers? Heard good things about them.

I don't even get the question. It's a used rod. If it's a rod that fits your needs, you buy it as-is. Offering a lower price because someone's name is on it doesn't make sense. As a rod builder myself, a custom built rod is more than likely better constructed than many/most commercial rods. A common saying in the custom rod building industry is that the hardest rod to fix is one you built yourself because attention to detail on the original build is so much better. Deconstructing parts of a custom rod to fix is very difficult. After fixing a few commercial rods myself, I'm amazed at epoxy missing inside reel seats, or poorly glued handles that come apart on commercial rods. You're getting a good rod except for any potential damage caused by the previous owner. Maybe you should offer a little more for that.
