Posts: 120 | My annual LOTW trip is supposed to start August 1st but doesn't look good. What is everyone doing this year who couldn't make it across the border? I am in north WI so have a lot of options but getting out of your home region always makes things more exciting. Does anyone know any good places in the U.P. to go or smaller quality fisheries in MN.? I have no interest in the big popular MN. waters this year. Who is doing a multi species trip and giving the muskies a break?

Posts: 72 | I'm booked a cabin on Kabetogama week of August 15th. I thought about Vermilion and other areas, but decided on a different trip with the girlfriend. When I booked 3 weeks ago the lodge was half full, but a week later it was completely full when a few others tried to join us. Never been there before but I hear it still has a good northwoods feel to it. I'll probably still bring a muskie rod and a few baits and try for some big pike.

Posts: 1677 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | I just decided to stay home and avoid the crowds this year. As much as I enjoy getting out, it isn't worth the merry go round or "bumper boats" as we refer to it.

Posts: 2280 Location: Chisholm, MN | With the warmer than average water temps and extreme pressure due to Covid, I would hope that people will target other species more this year. Northern MN is over 80 degrees in most places and close to it in others. It's early July and every lake has at least touched 80 degrees for a time. Vermilion was 82.5 last Friday evening. It has cooled down a little bit with big storms but it won't be long before it's back up there. This summer is predicted to be warmer and dryer than average, which will take most every lake out of the picture. I know some people have canceled their trips due to warm water, which is very commendable. Edited by Kirby Budrow 7/7/2020 8:47 AM

Quite a bit of underfished water just over the border from Vilas and Forest county WI

Posts: 3472 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, I'm still holding out that the border will open July 21st (I can hope...can't I?). I have not been on the water since the Minnesota opener as I don't like the crowds either, so the boat has been enjoying a very quiet year so far. Golf game is doing well, though... Steve

Posts: 57 Location: LENA IL | Rather than a 3 day trip in the north woods after a LOTW trip I’m just adding a few days. Of course I will miss north of the border Ski’s but will still enjoy the WI trip for sure
