Posts: 416 Location: Madtown, WI | Sure, it is slightly easier with 2 lines (I don't often troll 3 anyway) but you don't suddenly quadruple your numbers of fish caught when you start trolling. Only people who haven't spent much of any time trolling believe trolling is cheating. 3 lines is what you get for general fishing (dobbers/tip ups/etc), makes perfect sense to just make it standard.

Agreed. Anyone who thinks trolling is easy has spent little time doing it or has had minimal luck. Trolling with more lines will almost always put more fish in the boat but not by an exponential amount. I'm not sure where guys think trolling is the anti-christ of muskie fishing. It's another tool to put fish in the boat but i guess I shouldn't be complaining; I love to see guys casting on opening day.

Posts: 668 Location: mercer wi | I'd likd to see 2 lined per person just because it would be nice to troll 2 lines when I'm byy self in late fall and it's too cold to cast. Maybe 2 per person max 5 per boat.

Maybe 2 per person max 5 per boat. If statewide 3 line is implemented you could still troll 2 solo, same with preserving the “tradition” of row trolling/sucker fishing in the fall. I think the argument here is that allowing 3 lines is either okay… or it's not. Hopefully, it's obvious now on the second page that that the 3 line method will not crowd the lakes in those eight counties. What about the argument that allowing 3 lines would be detrimental to the fisheries because they are “special”? If they are indeed “special”, then perhaps WI should consider a hard 1 one line only regulation for them.

Location: 31 | I contacted a friend at the DNR regarding 3 line along with a couple other things, this is what he had to say about it. “I’d say it’s probably premature to discuss going to 3-lines statewide. The permanent rule was enacted fairly recently and we told people that this was how it’s going to be. People seem pretty satisfied with the current rules, although there were a few resolutions from the spring hearings that either wanted to reduce the number of lines in certain counties or increase the number of lines in certain other counties. All-in-all, things seem to be going pretty well and we aren’t considering any changes in the trolling rules in the near future. I think it would take a strong message from the 1-line counties (via spring hearing resolutions – telling us they wanted an increase in the number of lines) before we would consider further changes.”

Posts: 31 | So, if I am in Northern WI and using my trolling motor to work along a break line casting, and also have a sucker under a bobber behind the boat, am I violating any laws now?
