in! Any trick or suggestions to try?
I've tried to "gently" grip it over a cloth with slip joint pliers---won't turn
Universal squirt of WD-40 also unsuccessful

| I had this happen with my son's Shimano telescopic rod. First time we failed, but it was under warranty so sent it back. Second time, out of warranty. Googled it up. Tried heat, then cold. Tired WD40 on outside. Nothing worked. Then took off the butt cap off and put plenty of WD40 from the inside and let it soak for a day. That worked. |

| I have had luck putting the butt end on the floor between my feet and using both hands to push it in rather sharply. |

Location: NorthCentral WI | Grip the blank and slam the butt end into the ground a few times. You don't really need to worry about hitting it too hard imo. With my Okumas I normally pull/extend them out as hard as I can to avoid the blank turning or anything so they are usually stuck pretty good. A good slam or two onto the boat deck always does the trick. Don't overthink it, it's not like they're that fragile. |

With my Okumas I normally pull/extend them out as hard as I can to avoid the blank turning or anything so they are usually stuck pretty good. A good slam or two onto the boat deck always does the trick. Don't overthink it, it's not like they're that fragile.
I had the reel foot snap off my Toro S doing this last year, so I would go against this one. At least maybe take the reel off first. |

| Had this happen to one of my Okuma's. Took the reel off, grabbed the rod right above the joint, and just started tapping it on the (carpeted) floor.
*tap tap tap tap* huh.
*TAP TAP TAP TAP* Okay. Now what?
Decided to try the wood floor instead...
*BONK BONK BONK* (getting mad now)
*WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM!!!* All right 'ya SOB
*WHAM!!*
Last one did it!
I have to tell 'ya, those telescoping rods are great for storage and transport, but in order to make them tight enough where they don't collapse or spin on you during the day it's a safe bet you're going to have trouble collapsing them again.

use ice like this:
take a bag full of ice cubes and place it on a table. Put the handle of the rod over the bag. Take another bag full of ice cubes and place it on / over the handle (like a sandwich).
Wait 30/40 minutes.
After this time take the rod, dry the handle with a piece of absorbent paper, and try to turn the handle. It should work.
Otherwise, Plan B: bring the cane to an exorcist and ask him for help. : )

Good advice I had never heard, I tap my but down on a stiff part of the floor with increasing effort. |

Now that I think about it, that happened after a week of fishing in some pretty heavy rain. Never gave a thought to not storing them extended... |

Never thought of this. I have a few different telescoping rods, and I always collapse them, because I have to, to get them into the rod locker, so they are never stored in the extended position. Just dumb luck I guess. Now I know why I have never had a problem with them being stuck. |

Send the reel back to Abu. I had the same thing happen and Abu repaired it at no charge. |

| Sorry to resurrect and old thread but I had a suggestion to prevent sticking. In fly fishing especially when we are using 4 piece rods we use ferrule wax.we just rub a little on every so often and it helps keep the water out and prevents sticking. Putting a little on the joint and twisting and working it in a little bit may help prevent sticking in the future. I use it on all my fly rods from my 000wt up to my 10wt rods and never have problems after a day of wading . |
